    Navajo Code Talkers

    During WWII the marine corps used one of the thousands of languages to create and unbreakable code. No other country had American Indians who spoke Navajo its was an written language it saved thousands of american lives because nobody could break the code.

    Volunteerism of WWII

    Patriotic Americans invested their time volunteering for Red Cross making bandages, knitting socks, and collecting books to send to the troops. Celebrities boosted sales for war bond and other wartime endeavors. Red Cross also sent provisions to help soldiers (mainly pow's) in Germany & Japan.

    -The Allied powers were Great Britain, France, Russia later joined in June and in Dec. 1941 the U.S. joined

    -The purpose was to provide U.S. military aid to foreign nations WWII
    -Factories needed more and more workers to build war machines and helped decrease unemployment
    -Selling weapons and supplies brought in lots of revenue to help end the great depression. European countries didn't have to pay back debt until after war, and only paid for what they salvaged.

    Flying Tigers

    Flying tigers were recruited to send supplies and to engage in combat with Japanese pilots. Tuskegee Airmen were the 1st group of African fighters pilots in the U.S. Army Corps WWII. The army had resist using black men as pilot. They created a segregated unit for them.

    -During WWII was a acronym for women accepted for volunteer emergency service
    -Waves let women work on planes and fly planes in the continental U.S.
  • Axis Powers

    The reason Germany, Italy, and Japan joined together and formed an alliance (called the Axis Power also known as "The Tripartite Act".) The Tripartite Act was aimed at keeping the U.S. out of the war. Under the treaty each Axis Nation agreed to defend the others in case of an attack.

    -Also responsible for deploying 8 million soldiers

    -The morning of this day Japanese bombed the island of Oahu(Hawaii) in 2 waves of airplanes.damaging/destroying 18 U.S. Ships more than 260 airplanes and injured/killed about 6,000 Americans.
    -the day after Roosevelt asked congress to declare war on Japan. A famous from FDR in response to the actions was, "A date which will live in infamy."

  • Dwight Eisenhower/ Gorge Patton

    Dwight D. Eisenhower ... commander of the allied forces in western Europe. 5 star and second highest possible rank given. the go-head for a massive invasion in Europe called operation overload or D-Day. Gorge Patton was senior officer of the U.S. army who commanded the U.S. 7th army in the Mediterranean & Europe by the end of WWII Way he died he applied to multiple front invasions in Europe against Germany he was apart of D-Day.

    The high school victory corps program emphasized an entirely supplemental war-time education. They trained them for war. Both male and female were required to enroll in a war effort class.
  • War Bonds/ Rationing

    To raise enormous amounts of money needed to pay for the war, the government issued war bonds to help pay for war and encouraged citizens to buy them. Rationing regulated the amount of goods that a consumer could obtain. It was introduced to avoid public anger over shortages of war. Ration coupons were issued to each family, based on it's size. Americans were generally happy to help in the war effort in order to bring their loved ones home safely.

    5-star general commanded the southwest pacific and invaded the island of late in October 1944 to avenge Americans defeat in the Philippines. He applied his military actions with island hopping to help relieave POW's from the Bataan Death March
