    Asian and Pacific theatre of World War I
    it was a series of naval battles. They all had minimal bloodshed. It invlovled the Allied conquest of German colonial possessions in the Pacific Ocean and China. They destroyed East Asia Squadron.

    This involved local rebellions against European colonial rule and Allied campaigns against the German colonies. German colonies in Africa were not well defended. The African forces were small. They were meant to keep peace within Africa, not outer attacks.

    Between the British and the Turks. (ottoman troops) Lasted until November 21st. The British were trying to take the Oil fields. The British won and got the Oil fields.

    It was between Europe and the countries around the Indian and western Pacific oceans. Ottoman forces ' attacks failed because of strong defences. 30,000 of the troops had been placed on the Suez defences. THis was the first battle for Egypt.

    British, French, Australian, and New Zealand troops landed on the Turkish peninsula of Gallipoli. They wanted to knock out the German ally, Turkey. They went in blind and had no idea what the terrain was like, how well trained the other army was. 9 months later, the allies left after over 250,000 casualties, including over 46,000 dead.

    This was between the armies of Italy and Austria-Hungary. It was an attempt to outflank those forces defending Gorizia. Both sides had many causalties. THis battle only lasted about 2 weeks.

    German General Erich von Falkenhayn attacked Verdun, France. This was a battle that broke into small local fights. Over 300,000 French and Germans were killed and over 750,000 were wounded. It was one of the largest battles of the First World War on the Western Front.

    British and French armies met at the Somme River. They planned an attacked against the German Empire. It was one of the largest wars in WWI and one of the bloodiest in history. More than 1,000,000 men were wounded or killed. It also had the first use of the tank

    It was an Allied attempt to defeat Turkish forces. It was also the first attempt by the Egyptian Expeditionary Force to invade the south of Palestine. British casualties amounted to 4,000. Both sides portrayed the battle as a success.

    British General Douglas Haig attacked the German lines just outside of Ypres, Belgium. The Allies set off a series of nineteen giant mines. THis battle took 3 months. Men, animals and equipment were sucked in mud that was like quicksand. Haig's plan became another failure.
