    Many Americans believed that the Japanese Americans were enemies after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The government then called for the internment of Japanese Americans to prevent them from helping Japan.

    Japan aimed to control Midway but American forces were aware of the upcoming attack as they had decrypted a message. Under the command of Admiral Chester Nimitz, American forces allowed the Japanese to attack the island. Once Japanese planes had been sent, American forces came over the horizon and destroyed them and their ships.

    After winning the Battle of Midway, American forces went on the offensive and pushed into the island known as Guadalcanal.

    Allied forces started to make their first offensive moves in the Mediterranean. British forces launched a surprise attack on the Egyptian village of El Alamein where Commander Rommel and his forces were staying. The British eventually forced them to retreat.

    After trying multiple bombings and spending days dug in, German forces admitted defeat and surrendered to Soviet forces in Stalingrad. Around 90,000 soldiers remained of a once 330,000 German army.

    While the Battle of Stalingrad was ongoing, American and British forces attacked Italy. Allied forces landed on Sicily and took it from Italy. Soon after, Mussolini's power crumbled with King Victor Emmanuel III arresting him. Italy was then split into a Northern Italy and Southern Italy.

    After building a massive invasion force, Allied powers landed on the beach in Normandy. Through terrible fighting the Allied forces pushed the Germans back and were able to set up and liberate France, Belgium, and Luxembourg.

    The Battle of the Bulge was the last attempt Germany made to defeat the Allies. German forces caught Allied troops by surprise in the Ardennes, but were eventually defeated and forced to retreat.

    After many months of hard fighting between the Americans and Japanese, the Americans finally decided to use the atomic bomb. After using two atomic bombs on the cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Japanese finally surrendered.
