    Czech and Austria
    HItler invades Austria then Czechoslovakia within days of each other (Austria on March 12th and Czech on the 15th). The rest of the world doesn't want to start another world war and just lets Hitler take what he wants. The rest of te world favors appeasement at this point.
  • Munich Agreement

    Munich Agreement
    Hitler signs an agreement not to invade any other countries after Czech. That promise is broken when he invades Poland a couple years later.

    Hitler invades Poland and the Munich Agreement is broken. Two days later, France and Great Britain declare war on Germany and WW2 has started.

    The Tripartite Pact
    Germany, Italy, and Japan signed the Tripartite Pact, which became known as the Axis alliance.

    Battle of Moscow

    Taking over Russia was basicaly the main goal on Hitler's mind. He wanted the land for his ‘perfect’ aryan race that he was building. HItler wanted to take over moscow before the winter of 1941 but strong defences and weather slowed him down. By December the German army was about 19 miles away from Moscow but they had no winter cloths and the winters and Russia are brutal. Plus fresh winter ready reinforcements came in from Siberia which really saved the Russians. About 400,000 Gemans died.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    The United States and China were allies at the time and the US believed that China could trade with anyone they wanted, but we also supplied Japan resources, metals and some foods. when Japan attacked China the US then stopped supplying Japan but Japan need the resources we supplied for the war. Japan had found another way to get resources but it was protected by America so on December 7th 1941, Japan bombed and attacked the US Pacific fleet stationed at Pearl Harbor naval base in Hawaii.

    After the Attack on pearl Harbor the United States has entered the War. We declared war on Japan the day after the attack and the recruiting offices for the military around the country were lined up out the door. Some JHapanese leaders agreed that the attack didn't do anything but wake up another and even more powerful enemy that they would have to face. “I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve” -Isoroku Yamamoto

    Germany and Italy declare war on the United States because they were allies with Japan.

    Battle of Stalingrad

    This was Germany’s 2nd attempt to take over Russia, this time the goal for Hitler was to take over the city of Stalingrad. This again was an epic fail. The Russians tactic to defending was a ‘hugging’ tactic, the Russian lines need to stay close to the German lines so if they used artillery or air bombings they would be hitting their own men too. For most of the time the Germans had about 90% of the city, but later the red army counter attacked and encircled about 300,000 axis troops.
  • Battle of Midway

    Battle of Midway
    This was known as the biggest naval battle of WW2 and the turning point of the war in the Pacific. During this battle of the island of Midway, four Japanese aircraft carriers were destroyed which put a big hole in Japan's Military. Japan's goal for the attack was to destroy any carriers that survived the Pearl Harbor attack but the Americans decoded the Japanese’s messages and countered the ambush.

    Italy Surrenders
    One of three axis powers of WW2 has finally and officially surrendered. Italy is no longer a problem concerning a power but German forces still occupy much of Italy.

    D-day, AKA Operation Overlord, the allied powers have teamed up to do a full scale assault on the German occupied beaches of Normandy. Bad weather set back the original landing day to this date. This was and still is the largest land, air, and sea attack of all time and it cost over 425,000 lives on both sides combined.

    Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin all met together to discuss the war and what they are going to do with Germany when the War is over, they agreed to split Germany up into 4 sections and give them free elections. They also discussed the prosecution of war criminals.
  • Iwo Jima

    On this date the Allied forces had officially captured the former-japanese-occupied island Iwo Jima. The allies arrives on the island on February 19th of the same year. When the Allies had first arrived on the island it seemed completely empty but the Japanese had actually made underground tunnels and bombproof pill boxes and such. The island cost 7,000 Allied lives and 21,000 Japanese lives.

    The president of the United States has died because of cerebral hemorrhage and Harry S. Truman was sworn into office.

    Italian insurgents murder him then mutilate his body.

    Adolf Hitler commits suicide.

    The German Army signs an unconditional surrender and the war in the European theater is no more.
  • Potsdam

    Potsdam
    The top 3 allies meet in Potsdam to discuss the defeat of Japan. They agree on an unconditional surrender and that the Japanese government must give up their military and let a peaceful government rule. This is immediately shot down by the Japanese.
  • Hiroshima

    Hiroshima
    The United States dropped the first ever seen atomic bomb on Hiroshima Japan, the bombs name was Little Boy’ and it instantly killed around 75,000 people.
  • Nagasaki

    Nagasaki
    The US dropped a second Atomic bomb on Nagasaki Japan after they did not surrender to the first bomb. Both A-bombs were aimed for military producing factories and plantations.
  • End of War

    End of War
    Japan has signed an unconditional surrender and has ended the war.
  • United Nations

    United Nations
    After the war, several countries were destroyed. Group was then made of so that there would supposedly be no more world wars. The original 51 countries signed the document all on june 26 1945, but the group and the name was actually coined on october 1945.
