    Christopher Columbus was an Italian explorer who sailed for Spain across the Atlantic Ocean four times and discovered the Americas. His discovery of the Americas is an important event in history because it paved the way for exploration into the west. His importance is considered controversial because of his poor treatment to the Native Americas while he ventured west.

    The Transatlantic Slave Trade (1525-1866)
    The Transatlantic Slave Trade was a part of the Triangular Trade between the Americas, Europe, and Africa. Goods were traded between these three areas and one of them included slaves sent from Africa. This has a great significance in world history because millions of African slaves received by the New World and Europe faced hardships and prejudices for many years to come.

    The French Revolution was a war within France with a goal of having a representative democracy without monarchs. Although the revolution was unsuccessful, it, along with the American Revolution, helped to spark the desire for freedom for other countries. it also brought along a famous, strong general into world history: Napoleon Bonaparte.

    The Industrial Revolution, which began in Europe, was a period of mass production of products that increased efficiency within jobs and everyday life. It brought about machinery, methods, and products that are still used today, such the assembly line and interchangeable parts. With these new inventions, however, there were also costs of the Industrial Revolution such as an increase in pollution, child labor, and over population.

    The Age of Imperialism was a period of time where large, influential countries such as Great Britain and the United States started taking control of other countries both directly or indirectly. They sought value in other countries around the world both economical and politically if war broke out. This is significant in world history because it created conflict between countries trying to gain more and more power.

    The Berlin Conference was during the Age of Imperialism and was also known as the Scramble for Africa. Here several different European countries collected together in Berlin, Germany to split Africa amongst themselves. This was significant in world history because it completely excluded African groups in the decision making and increased the control of these countries around the world.

    World War I was a large scale war around the world between the Allies (Great Britain, France Russia, and Serbia) and Central Powers (Germany, Austria- Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire). This was caused because of militarism, nationalism with in the countries, the alliances between different countries, and imperialism around the world. Although Germany did surrender, this event is significant because it led to the second world war because of Germany's bitter feelings after the surrender.

    Adolf Hitler was a German politician from Austria who became the Chancellor of Germany. This event is a crucial part of world history because with his dictatorship he also brought fascism, a government which included xenophobia and extreme nationalism for Germany. Both these characteristics are major factors that contributed to World War II.

    The second World War was started by Germany after they brought up a new leader, Adolf Hitler, through their bitterness from the Treaty of Versailles after World War I. This war was between the Allied Powers (England, Russia, Australia, and eventually the United States) and the Axis Powers (Germany, Austria, Italy, and Japan) and ended in Germany's surrender. It has significance in world history because it was a gruesome war that killed many soldiers, civilians, and millions of Jews.

    The Holocaust was a period during World War II that consisted of the mass murder of millions of Jews under the German Nazi regime. Six million European Jews, Jews outside of Europe, gypsies, and homosexuals were taken to concentration camps and killed. This has a huge significance in world history and our world today because of the great impact it had on the Jewish community.
