In 1973, OPEC's (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) Arab members blocked oil to the US. They did this to protest the US helping Israel. Oil is of great importance to our country and the shortage caused an oil crisis. -

On September 11, 4 terrorist attacks were carried out against the USA. The attacks were planned by Al-Qaeda. This event sparked nationalism in the USA and started a fear of terrorism that still persists today. (Ch. 34 pg. 1118)
