    Golding attended Brasenose College at Oxford University, where in his third year he studied literature. A year before graduation he wrote a book of poetry called Poems. The poems illustrate his increasing distrust of rationlism, while he mocks well known rationlists and thier views.

    William died of a heart attack in Perranarworthal, Cornwall. He spent his last few years with his wife where he continued to write. After he passed away his manuscript for the Double Tongue was published posthumously.
