What Waits in the Woods By:McKenna Johnson

  • Premise

    Premise
My book is about a girl named Callie who goes on a camping trip with her boyfriend and her new best friends. Callie and her friends think that the trip is going to be something to look forward too but it changes quickly. Everything changes quickly when they come across a stranger that they met in the woods. Not only did they come across a stranger in the woods, but Callie found a dead body. I chose this book because I am into horror and the adventurous books.
  • Event 1—Bonding with friends

    Event 1—Bonding with friends
Callie was not into the wilderness as some of her friends, but she only wanted to go on the trip because she wanted to get to know her friends a little better. Once everything started turning in the wrong direction, Callie and her friends were regretting having gone on that camping trip that was supposed to be the time of their lives. Thinking: This event made me think of the first time I came across a bear while hunting. When seeing the bear it made me question why I was doing this to myself.
  • Event 2—Dead Body

    Event 2—Dead Body
Callie and her friend Penelope were going for a walk in the woods while their other friends stayed back at the camp. While they were on their walk Penelope stopped to tie her shoe and Callie kept walking a couple steps when Callie saw a dead body laying on the ground right in front of her. Thinking: This event made me think of how scared Callie and Penelope felt when they saw the dead body. Not only that, but who could have been the killer.
  • Event 3—Ted

    Event 3—Ted
The group of five were walking through the woods when they came across a guy named Ted. Ted told the group of five that they should stay with him because he wanted to help lead them back to safety. Although the group thought it was a good idea to follow him, they were all a little suspicious because they thought he was following them everywhere. Everything changed when Ted led them back to his cabin. Thinking: This event made me feel very suspicious because they have never met him before.
  • Event 4—Callie and Jeremy

    Event 4—Callie and Jeremy
The whole reason Callie wanted to go on the camping trip was to bond with her new friends and her boyfriend. Further on through the story, Callie and Jeremy began to start fighting and it got so bad that they eventually broke up. Not only did this cause Callie and Jeremy to fall apart, but it made the whole group fall apart. Thinking: This event made me think that the group doesn’t care about each other anymore.
  • Event 5—The Killer

    Event 5—The Killer
Callie was beginning to question whether Ted was the one who killed the person in the beginning of the story. Callie was also questioning if she could trust anyone anymore that was a part of their group. Not only could she trust anyone, but she also thought she was going crazy by hearing screaming and laughing in the woods. Thinking: This event made me think that once something happens to someone, it is hard to trust people anymore.
  • Event 6—The Incident

    Event 6—The Incident
The group was traveling through the woods when they came across a creek that had a rickety old bridge that was going across it. Not knowing that the bridge could hold a lot of weight, all five kids went across the bridge at the same time and the bridge eventually collapsed. Once all of them got out of the water, they lost all their supplies including one of the most important items which was a cell phone. Thinking:This made me feel frustrated because it would be hard to survive without supplies.
  • Event 7— Camp site

    Event 7— Camp site
Callie and Penelope were sharing a tent one night when they set up at a camping site for the first night. They both did not start off on a good note because Callie was made that Penelope dropped her phone in the water, and they didn’t any way to contact people anymore. The first night Callie kept hearing noises outside of their tent, but she went to go look and it was Ted sitting by the fire. Thinking: This made me think that Ted shouldn’t be trusted by anyone.
  • Event 8—Lissa

    Event 8—Lissa
Lissa was one of the girls that was Callie’s new best friend. Lissa was that girl who would get mad over something then she would leave and go out on her own. Once the group noticed that she was missing, everyone began to go looking for her. This time the rest of the group found Lissa dead and when they did they all became very worried and weren’t sure if they should trust Ted anymore. Thinking:This made me ask why the group was still trusting Ted when the group could have survived on their own.
  • Event 9—Zach

    Event 9—Zach
Once Ted was able to lead the group to his cabin, he had a friend named Zach. Ted then told the group that Ted and Zach were the ones who killed Lissa and the other person. The rest of the group that was left began to freak out and tried to call 911, but Ted and Zach threatened them. The two killers then began killing people because they were trying to kill the whole group. Thinking: This made me think to myself why the group thought that it would have been a good idea to trust him.
  • Event 10—The Escape

    Event 10—The Escape
Callie and Jeremy were eventually able to kill Ted and Zach and they were the only ones left out of their group. They were able to call 911 for help after they got everything under control. After they have been out of the woods for a couple of days, Callie and Jeremy began to start talking to each other again and eventually got back together. Thinking: This made me feel sad because the group would have been fine if they wouldn't have met Ted.
  • Reflection

    Reflection
I thought this book was overall good, but it would have been better if it was a little shorter because it had a lot of little details that were not needed. I would recommend this book to people who like thrillers and adventurous books. Although this book wasn’t the best, I would think they could make the movie a little more interesting if they were to make a movie.
