13th amendment
This event is important because it allowed former slaves to join society. This then would transition into the need for equality as American citizens. -
15th amendment
This event led to increased voting rights because it was the first amendment added to the constitution that actually give rights to minorities (males). -
Laws to take voting rights from African-Americans
This event led to another event because since there was so much controversy around voting rights for minorities; the Supreme Court had to step in -
Supreme court rules that literacy tests are constitutional
This event is important because after making it so minority males can vote; the Supreme Court almost takes that away by making it almost impossible to be able to vote. That's because the literacy test has no criteria other than the people who issues it; meaning there's no real correct answer. -
Supreme Court declares "Grandfather Clause" unconstitutional
This event leads to increased voting rights because the people who didn't have a voter in their family before can now vote; regardless of ancestry. -
19th amendment
This event leads to increased voting rights because now women are also able to vote. It used to be that only men can vote but because of this amendment voting rights have extended to women as well. -
Supreme Court rules that poll taxes are constitutional
This event will lead to the outlawing of poll taxes since it discourages voters, specifically minorities, to where the vote is unfairly influenced. -
24th Amendment
This event leads to increased voting rights because money is no longer an issue when it comes to voting; therefore more people will vote and the polls would be more fair. -
Freedom Summer
This event is important because it helped to encourage civil equality by helping people register in Mississippi to vote. But so many people were against it that violence broke out and caused many killings to happen. -
Voting Rights Act
This event leads to increased voting rights because it has set the tone for society to let anyone, despite race or ethnicity, to vote in the polls.
