  • North Carolina Constitution of 1776

    The North Carolina Constitution of 1776 was created under the supervision of Speaker Richard Caswell. The constitution was created to make sure the citizens of North Carolina had rights and to create a government that was strong enough to fight for America's independence from Britain with the other states.
  • Seneca Falls Convention

    The Seneca Falls Convention was the first ever women rights convention. This convention was held to discuss the religious, social, and civil conditions of the rights of women.z
  • Passage of the 15th Amendment

    This was the first amendment to get passed that gave African American men the right to vote in the United States. This also stated that any citizen of the United States could not be denied their voting rights.
  • Passage of the 17th Amendment

    This amendment stated that each state would have two senates, serve for six year terms, and be elected by the people. This amendment also supersedes Article 1, Clause 1 and 2 of the United States Constitution.
  • Passage of the 19th Amendment

    This amendment stated that governments couldn't deny voting rights based on the sex of a person. This was one of the most important amendments that involved women's rights.
  • Indian Citizenship Act

    This act stated that all Native Americans born in their rightful land will become a citizen of the United States. This allowed a lot more Native Americans to gain their citizenship than their was before the Civil War.
  • Jim Crow Laws

    The Jim Crow laws were laws that were implemented in the United States in the 1950's. These laws made sure that black people know that segregation was real and to make life hard for black people.
  • Passage of the 23 Amendment

    This amendment gives the residents of Washington D.C. the right to vote for people in the Electoral College. This means all citizens in Washington D.C. can vote for presidential electors.
  • Passage of the 24 Amendment

    This amendment stopped fees that were charged to citizens before they voted. This let a lot more people vote, specifically poor people.
  • Voting Rights Act of 1965

    This act gave more power to African Americans, allowing them to have more freedoms with voting. This act was passed by President Lyndon B. Johnson.
  • Passage of the 26 Amendment

    The 26 Amendment made the legal voting age 18 in the United States. This also made African Americans get full voting privileges.
