    Domino theory
    Eisenhower stated the domino affect to the american people which stated that if one southeast Asian country fell under communist control the the rest of the countries would follow like falling domino's, one after the other. This created fear in many Americans for the years to come during the Vietnam war. This is also why president Eisenhower wanted to use containment to control the communism and try and stop the domino effect from happening.

    SDS Founded
    The SDS was an organization of students that first fought against Civil Rights and then issues with the Vietnam war. The Students with Robert Alan Haber as there president mainly focused on the drafting of American students into the military and fought against it. They tried to occupy as many college administration buildings as they could as a tactic against the draft.

    The Vietcong had several attacks leading up to the overthrow of the Dem government.The Dem palace was bombed in a coup attempt followed by the Vietcong followed by the battle of AP-BAC were Vietcong defeated the South Vietnamese army. then the over throw of the Diem government followed.

    May 1, 1950-President Truman allowed for $10 million in military assistance in Indochina. Although Kennedy did not sign the foreign Assistance Act until 1962, Truman efforts started military, Naval, and air-force assistance in Vietnam.

    An attack on the my Lai village killed many women, children and innocent civilians. It was one off the worst incidents in the Vietnam war on unarmed civilians and was covered up by the Americans until exposed in the American news.
  • Re-election

    Re-election
    Johnson decided not to run for re-election even though he was eligible. Although America could not see Johnson suffered when sending troops of to Vietnam to fight for the war. He did not believe in sending Americans to fight in a war not meant for them. He also saw a struggle for the democratic government and shortly before he announced he would not be re running he stopped sending troops to Vietnam.

    In Chicago while the Democratic party argued on their stance on Vietnam, thousands of protesters against the war stood in the streets showing their support for McCarthy and hope that the U.S troops would be withdrawal from the war. This also became know as the "Battle of Michigan Avenue".

    Nixon won by offering a plan to get America out of the war with out looking like a weak nation. He promised to bring back law and order to the American government and spoke for those who felt unheard. This caused him to take the win in the electoral votes.

    A music and art festival held on a farm in Bethel, New York. It was created by Michael Lang, John Roberts, Joel Rosenman, and Artie Kornfeld. It was a big moment in the history of music and widely popular among hippies.
  • Vietnamization Introduced

    Vietnamization Introduced
    A policy created by Nixon. It was aimed at ending all U.S involvement in the war and transferred all duties to South Vietnam.
  • Kent State Student Shot

    Kent State Student Shot
    Many students were protesting the bombing of Cambodia but 4 students protest ended in tragedy. When marching at Kent State 4 students ran into the national guards and ended up being shot and killed. The protesters began to get out of hand by through things and breaking widows witch was why the national guard was called down to try and deescalate the situation but ended up calling more attention to the student protest across the nation.

    The U.S invade Cambodia with South Vietnam troops in hopes of shortening the war for Americans. With this Nixon promised the removal of 150,000 American troops. This invasion outraged many students and set a fire in the anti Vietnam protest.
  • Pentagon Papers printed in NY

    Pentagon Papers printed in NY
    Daniel Ellensburg was apart of the secret department of the U.S defense study and wrote the pentagon papers. In them he wrote about military strategies in Vietnam and all the behind the scenes information that Americans did not know. When writing them he soon learned that he opposed the war due to the miscalculations and false statements made about the American military. Due to this Ellensburg decided to turn in the papers to the NY times to expose the American government and military.
  • Fall of Saigon

    Fall of Saigon
    The capturing of Saigon by North Vietnam meant the end of the war. Several days before this American troops and several Vietnam refugees were evacuated by helicopters.
