  • Japanese Invades Manchuria

    Japanese Invades Manchuria
    The Japanese invasion of Manchuria occurred on September 18, 1931, when the Kwantung Army of the Empire of Japan invaded Manchuria, immediately following the Mukden Incident. This is important because the Japanese had taken over Manchuria when they thought they committed the Mukden Incident so they did a full invasion on them.

    The Bonus Army was a popular name for an assemblage of around 43,000 marchers and 17,000 U.S. World War I veterans, their families, and affiliated groups. They gathered in Washington D.C. in the summer of 1932 to demand cash payment redemption of their services. This is important because all of the People who were in the Bonus Army deserved a cash payment redemption which they were not given so they acted upon it.

    The Munich Agreement was a settlement allowing Germany's annexation of portions of Czechoslovakia along the country's borders mainly inhabited by German speakers, for which a new territorial designation "Sudetenland" was made. This is important because Germany had control of Czechoslovakia and could take over more countries.

    The Tripartite Pact, also called the Berlin Pact, was an agreement between Germany, Japan and Italy signed in Berlin on September 27 1940 by, Joachim von Ribbentrop, Saburō Kurusu and Galeazzo Ciano. I chose this topic because it showed the alliance between Germany, Japan and Italy that were going to fight against us during the war.

    Attack on Pearl Harbor
    1941 Japan bombed the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor. 188 U.S. Aircraft was destroyed, 2403 Americans were killed, and 1178 Americans were wounded. I chose this topic since it is important in US history. It is important because after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor which the United States had declared war on Japan entering them in WWII.
  • Doolittle raid

    Doolittle raid
    On April 18, 1942 16 American B-25 bombers launched from the USS Hornet and commanded by Colonel James H. Doolittle attacked the Japanese main island. The now famous raid on Tokyo did little real damage during the war but it did hurt the Japanese government's prestige. The attack was believed to be launched from Midway Island so an attack on Midway would also damage their prestige.
    This is important because this was the first air raid on the Japanese main island.
  • Battle of Okinawa

    Battle of Okinawa
    April 1 - June 22, 1945 Last and biggest of the pacific island battles of WW II. The Okinawa campaign involved 287k troops from the US against 130k troops from the Japanese thirty second army. Vital air bases were at stake from the protected invasion of Japan. By the end of the 82-day, Japan lost more than 77k troops and the Allies suffered more than 65k casualties including 14k dead.
    This is important because this was the largest battle on the pacific with Japan losing 100k casualties.
  • Hitler Commits Suicide

    Hitler Commits Suicide
    The dictator of Germany, Adolf Hitler, burrowed away in a refurbished air raid shelter. He had taken a cyanide capsule and then shot himself with a pistol. The bodies of Hitler and Eva were cremated in the chancellery garden by the bunker survivors.
    This is important because Hitler committing suicide allowed the Allies to win the war.
  • Little Boy

    Little Boy
    The first nuclear weapon used in a war. This gun type device, the critical mass is achieved when a uranium projectile which is sub critical is fired through a gun at a uranium target. The resulting uranium mass comprised of both a projectile and a target becomes critical and a chain reactions commences. Was dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. 10ft long 28in in diameter. 9700lbs
    I chose this topic because i was interested in learning about the first atomic bomb that was used in any war.
  • V-J Day

    V-J Day
    August 14' 1945 Japan had unconditionally surrendered to the Allied Forces, ending WW II. Since that day August 14 and August 15 have been known as Victory Over Japan Day or VJ Day. On September 2, 1945 Japan's formal surrender took place aboard the U.S.S Missouri anchored at Tokyo Bay.
    This is important because this day the Allies declared victory over Japan.
