    Hitler's debut as Chancellor on January 30, 1933 marked a crucial turning point for Germany. His idea was to get rid of politics and make Germany a powerful one-party state. I chose this topic because Hitler becoming Chancellor marked a crucial turning point in the war, not only for Germany, but for all who were involved in the war.

    Rome-Berlin Axis Treaty formed between Italy and Germany in 1936. This was an agreement formulated by Italy's foreign minister Galeazzo Ciano, which informally linked the two fascist countries. It was formalized by the Pact of Steel in 1939. The term "Axis Powers" eventually came to include Japan as well.

The government and people were united in support of Britain and France. After Parliament debated the matter, Canada declared war on Germany on September 10th.

    On November 30 1939, Soviet bombers appeared on the skies of Helsinki and 15 other Finnish cities without declaration of war and bombed them. Later on December 14th the Council of the League of Nations adopted a decision on the expulsion of the USSR from the League of Nations.

    The Dunkirk evacuation, code-named Operation Dynamo, was the evacuation of Allied soldiers from the beaches and harbor of Dunkirk, France, between May 26th and June 4th 1940, during World War II. The operation was decided upon when large numbers of Belgian, British, and French troops were cut off and surrounded by the German army during the Battle of France.

    The German battleship Bismarck Sinks
    Bismarck was attacked by Fairey Swordfish biplane torpedo bombers. One scored a hit that rendered the battleship's steering gear inoperable. In the ship's final battle the following morning, Bismarck was taken down by an attack from a British fleet, and sank.

    Dumbo was one of the shortest Disney films ever released at 64 minutes, it was also the fourth Disney animated film ever created. It was created to make up for the failure and financial losses of Fantasia in 1940. During 1941 Disney Studio was in a large amount of financial trouble due to the war in Europe. The war also caused Pinocchio and Fantasia to do poorly at the box office.

    Roosevelt's Death
    President Roosevelt was the longest serving president in American history serving a total of 13 years as president. He was elected in 1932 as the 32nd president of the U.S. On April 12th, 1945 Roosevelt died of a cerebral hemorrhage at the age of 63, three months into his fourth term. Many Americans highly valued his leadership, as he proved to be a highly effective commander in chief during WW2. Not only did he lead America through WW2 but he also lead the U.S. through the Great Depression.
  • "Fat Man" Detonated

    The "Fat Man", also known as the Mark lll, atomic bomb was detonated over Nagasaki by the U.S. on August 9th, 1945. From 1945-1949 120 of the "Fat Man" bombs were created by scientists at Los Alamos Labratory. The "Fat Man" had a solid plutonium core, and was an implosion type nuclear weapon. It was dropped from the Boeing B-29 Superfortress Bockscar.
  • Flag Raising on Mt. Suribachi

    Mt. Suribachi was the highest point on the island of Iwo Jima. The battle of Iwo Jima was a battle between U.S. Marines and the Japanese. Mt. Suribachi was a key position on the island, which the Japanese were in control of. On February 23rd the Marines took control of Mt. Suribachi and raised a small American flag on the mountains peak. With Mt. Suribachi captured, one third of Iwo Jima was under American control.
  • The Aerosol Spray Can During WW2

    In the late 40's aerosols were used for an insecticide called the "bug bomb" that was developed Goodhue and Sullivan. During the war American Soldiers used it to fight insect borne diseases, like malaria, in the Pacifc. During World War ll, 50 million units were produced.
