    The British held Nanjing captive, resulting to have China quickly proceed with the Peace negotiations, called the Treaty of Nanjing. This created China to pay Britian by increasing the number of treaty ports and four additional designated ports.

    Alfred Thayer Mahan, a brilliant American naval historian. A man who provided the intellectual and historican foundations for American imperial expanstion.

    Alaska is Purchased
    Alaska was purchased from the approval of The House of Representatives and Senate, increasing the size of the U.S. It's purchase led the U.S to use it's resources such as fish, coal, timber, and gold.

    U.S policymakers wanted to annex the Philippines for a variety of motivations. They desired commericial opportunities in Asia, and if they didnt take control other countries would likely take over. (i.e. Germany or Japan)
    In the end the Philippines soon gained its own independence in 1946.

    Theodore Roosevelt's international relations policy was used for the Panama Canal Crisis and the Cuba quesiton. It's purpose served as a policy to lead towards peace, but to be aware of the military power that comes with.

    The country of Germany responded with anger to U.S and ceased to sink ships without warning. When, in agreement, they said they would warn when the attack was coming so they could prepare.
