    Kamehameha's legacy as King

    When Kamehameha became king he used the kapu system to make people realize his authority.Then Kamehameha went on to conqour all the islands to unite them all together.First came the battle of Moku'ohai then Kepaniwai and latter came his last battle of Nu'uanu.He had won all these battles.But his final challenge was to conqour Kauai.Kauai did surender over time though, after came the trading of sandalwood and fur.But when Kamehameha died he did unite the Hawaiian islands and brought peace.
  • Meeting Captain Cook

    Captain Cook came to Hawaii.He stoped in Kauai, he had traded with the Hawaiians iron nails, for food.The Hawaiians thought of him as the god Lono and Cook was trading and getting gifts from the Hawaiians.The Hawaiians thought of Cook as the god Lono because he fitted the discription of him.After the repairs were done he planned to return to the Pacific Northwest
  • The Battle of Moku'ohai

    This battle took place in Ke'ei, Kona.This battle happened because of the rivalry between Kamehameha and Kiwala'o.Kiwala'o was the son of Kalani'opu'u, he had inhereted the kingdom.Kiwala'os half brother Keoua had no land left for him by his late father so he want into a rampage and kllled some of Kamehameha's warriors.This lead to Kamehameha responding and defending his honor.The battle lasted for months and ended when Kiwala'o died.In the end this was the first major victory for Kamehameha.

    The battle of Kawela
    This event happened when woman and children escaped to the island Moloka'i.In a pursuit of war ships the army had resistance.Queen Kaloha asked if the two kingdoms could be united if she would marry off her daughter.She said that her sons and grandsons would rule over Hawaii.
  • The Battle of Nu'uanu

    The battle of Nu'uanu took place in the south of Oahu.This day was one of Kamehameha's victory.At this time Kamehameha was trying to take control over Oahu, his troops fought against the warriors of Oahu.Oahu's warriors were then fought until the cliff between the valley.Then Kamehameha's warriors either pushed Oahu's warriors off the cliff or they jumped off as well.The chief Kalanikuple escaped but then was sacrificed
  • Kamehameha Attemps an Attack on Kauai

    Kamehameha tries to attack the island of Kauai to take control over the island.Kauai and Ni'ihau was ruled by the king Kaumuali'i.Kamehameha attempted his first attack, but along 1/4 of the way from Oahu to Kauai, Kamehameha's cannoes were swamped out because of the rough seas and the winds.Kamehameha tried his 2nd with 8 cannoes and guns, but an epidemic broke out and killed thousands.In the end king Kamuali'i decided to peacefully make an agreement to unite with the rest od the kingdom

    The highest point of the trade's of sandalwood was reached in 1805.People wanted to trade for the sandalwood for the pleasant smell form the wood, or they would use sticks of this for firewood.Kamehameha put a kapu on the younger trees so they would grow without cutting them down when they are short and young

    Kaumualiʻi makes agreement with Kamehameha
    Kaumuali'i made an agreement with Kamehameha to make a peaceful agreement to join the rest of the kingdom of Hawaii.Kamuali'i still had his tittle and responsibilities, although Kamehameha had control over Kauai and Ni'ihau.King Kaumali'i died on 1824.

    In 1840 there was the constitution of thne Kingdom of Hawaii created the a constitutional monarchy.It said that the land belonged to the people and was to be managed by the king.This established the branches of the government, then Kamehameha and the other 245 chiefs split up the land among them.Private ownership of land did not exist, the commoner would be expeled by the chief.About 32% of land was owned by the state and 4.8% of the land was Hawaiian Homelands.

    On October 23 a group of missonaries of 17 set sail to Hawaii from Boston on the Thaddeus.The seventeen members consisted of two ministers, two teachers, one physician, one farmer, one printer and the wives of the missionaries were espected to be teachers.They asked Lihliho how long they could stay in Hawaii which he said that they could only stay for one year.But during that time they moved to Honolulu and they had built houses, counducting religious services, schools and a Christian church.
