    The underground railroad was a network of routes and houses that were created in the united states.Harriet Tubman was known to the underground railroad because she helped the slaves that were free escape from freedom. Tubman escaped from slavery also led the slaves to the northern free states and Canada.
  • Compromise of 1850

    Compromise of 1850
    The compromise of 1850 was five laws passed by the unites states that was dealing with slavery. During the compromise of 1850 the south strengthened the fugitive law while the north gained a free state. The compromise of 1850 was important because Texas had lost territory so therefore they was given 10 million dollars to pay off their debts. Also compromise of 1850 allowed the unites states to expand their territory but they had to accept California as their state.

    Kansas-Nebraska Act
    The Kansas-Nebraska act allowed people in the territory to tell whether or not to allow slavery. As soon as the act passed pro and anti slavery rushed to settle in Kansas. Franklin supported pro slavery but wanted violence to stop with the anti slavery so sent off troops that were federal.

    During the election of 1860 president James Buchanan wasn't doing anything to stop the problem. John Brown wanted to start a war to free African american slaves. The north on the other hand wanted to stop slavery from the west they were not really worried about abolitionism. Lincoln was known during the election of 1860 he was a speaker.

    Due to Bleeding Kansas Ruffians destroyed the antislavery town. They robbed homes, burned down the Free state hotel, and they destroyed the Kansas free newspaper. John Brown had a role in Bleeding Kansas he moved his family a lot of times to pursuit opportunities to confront slavery head-on.

    Fort Sumter was located south east of south Carolina. Fort Sumter got taking over and shot at by the north.Anderson took his troops away from the Fort Sumter he did not want anything to happen to them. Major Anderson had to give up from fort Sumter within two days later. Also Abraham wanted to declare the civil war and asked for 75,000 volunteers. Afterwards shots were then fired from all sides of the fort.

    Battle of bull run took place 30 miles away from Washington dc. Two armies that were under control of america was a long battle that left 5,000 people either killed,wounded,missing,or controlled by force. Due to the war ending quickly Lincoln responded by calling additional troops and by replacing McDowell with General George B. McClellan.

    When the battle of Shiloh began General S Grant continued the Mississippi valley of the anaconda plan.General took control of Fort Henry and Fort Do-nelson. During the battle of Shiloh 25,000 union soldiers and confederate soldiers were killed and hurt. As a result the Battle of Shiloh damaged grants reputation.

    The seven days battles occurred by Virginia. During the seven days battle McClellan moved to Washington. During the battle 100,000 men ended up not breathing which was McClellan army. Lees army had 20,000 troops hurt or killed while McClellan had 16,000 troops injured or killed. Seven days battle was important because General Robert took control of the army which was north of Virginia. Also because the largest union army was defeated and was forced out and away from Richmond.

    Battle of Antietam was by Maryland. Clara Barton played a role in Battle of Antietam. Clara took care of hurt soldiers. Antietam occurred during the morning as soon as the union army attacked the confederate army. Neither sides won in the battle of Antietam but the north claimed victory because Lee's army had to move from Maryland and the Union soil. The union had 49,000 more soldiers than the confederate army, but that leave 3,500 soldiers killed and 17,000 wounded.

    The emancipation proclamation was a order by president Lincoln freeing slaves in any type of the the unites states. The emancipation proclamation did not change slavery but it did make ending slavery a goal for war.The proclamation helped lead to the end of slavery. Lincoln was important to the emancipation proclamation. Lincoln felt like if his crowing of his presidency was in the emancipation proclamation then it would be good for history.

    Battle of Vicksburg had something to do with Union general Grant troops. General Grant troops battled Kentucky in late 1862. The anaconda plan wanted to gain control of the river and to cut down the south in half. Grant tried to dig a canal so that the union ships could get across the river by the Vicksburg batteries but it did not work his plan failed.

    Battle of Gettysburg took place southern of Pennsylvania General George led an army with about 95,000 men to victory against General Robert confederate army with 75,000 men. Battle of Gettysburg was the bloodiest battle. During the 3 day battle 50,000 men died or got hurt.

    During reconstruction union victory gave most 4 million slaves freedom. During the reconstruction period new significant challenges were being talked about.Blacks got their right to vote during the radical reconstruction. At the end of reconstruction whites started getting violent. They did not want African Americans to have a freedom and to be able to do as they please.

    Lincoln was the first president to be assassinated. The assassination of Lincoln occurred in Washington at fords theater. His assassination was something serous because the man was someone who accompanied their wife.John Wilkes killed Lincoln but Lincoln did not die until 9 hours later.Lincoln's death made people have anger and feelings of revenge against the confederacy.
