  • Compromise of 1850

    Compromise of 1850
    The Compromise of 1850 had to please both north and south so for the north California was a free state and, the south a more effective fugitive slave law. This allowed the crisis over slavery in the territories to pass but not for a long time
  • Underground Railroad

    Underground Railroad
    The underground was a system of escape routes for slaves. It hid fugitives in secret tunnels and got them to the north to be free. A woman called Harriet Tubman was a conductor who risk her life and saved 300 slaves to their freedom
  • Kansas Nebraska Act

    Kansas Nebraska Act
    It would allow Kansas to be in the south and Nebraska in the north. It also repeals the Missouri Compromise and establish popular sovereignty for both territories
  • The Dred Scott Decision

    The Dred Scott Decision
    Dred Scott was a slave who went to the supreme court to appeal for his freedom since he was living in a free state and that made him a free man. But it was denied because the fifth amendment protected property and slaves were property. This permitted the extension of slavery
  • Election of 1860

    Election of 1860
    Lincoln becomes president without any votes from the south. The south was not pleased with this so first South Carolina left the Union then 6 other states joined this lend to the Confederate States of America.
  • Battle of Bull Run

    Battle of Bull Run
    This was the very first battle on the battle field in Virginia. It was the Union against the Confederates and the confederates won. Giving them confidence for the war and the Union realized that the war was not going to be easy.
  • Battle of Antietam

    Battle of Antietam
    This is when Robert E. Lee invades the north and attacks the union. During the battle the Union capture someone with the plans of the Confederate but the war is still very bloody and it becomes a tie. This led to the Emancipation Proclamation issued by Lincoln it states that all slaves in the south are free this was to make sure no foreign countries would try help the confederates.
  • Battle of Chancellorsville (Hooker vs Lee)

     Battle of Chancellorsville (Hooker vs Lee)
    Hooker was the Union general who had a 12 mile surprise attack for Lee. Then Lee split up his army to defeat Hooker which worked but unfortunately Jackson got shot by his own men which was Lee's biggest lost. This began to show that Lee was losing all his good generals.
  • Battle of Gettysburg

    Battle of Gettysburg
    Also known as the "Turning Point" Lee took his army to Gettysburg to defeat the north so he sent 50,000 men to go and take it which was his first biggest mistake. And that was a victory for the north and the south lost. Gettysburg address "why we fight, dedication to those men"
  • Appomattox Court House

    Appomattox Court House
    At this point the South is not winning they are losing men and have no food. So Robert E. Lee surrenders he Asks to meet Grant and surrenders to him at the Appomattox Court House and all he ask is for are his horses for his men and his gun for protection. The Civil War has ended
  • Lincolns Assassination

    After the war is over Lincoln goes to a Theater were a man call John Wilkes Booth shoots him at the back of the head. This stopped Lincolns reconstruction plans which was 10% plan to get 1 out of 10 people in the south need to be loyal to the Union. It also made Andrew John from the south the new President.
  • 13th Amendment

    13th Amendment
    The 13th amendment says that slavery is abolished. This was the only thing President Johnson believe African Americans needed and that there was no need for the 10% plan.
  • Tenure Act of 1867

    Tenure Act of 1867
    This act was for the south to have military but President Johnson did not believe the south needed this so he fired Edwin Stanton who ran the Military Reconstruction which dived the south into 5 military zone. This led to to House of Representatives to file for Impeachment charges
  • 14th Amendment

    14th Amendment
    It states anyone born in the United States is a legal citizen. This made the Dred Scott Decision no more because African Americans were legal people not property. This prevented former CSA from holding political office.
  • Election of 1868

    Election of 1868
    Grant becomes president. He gives us the 15th amendment this allowed every man to vote in America black or white. Also during his presidency there were was less crimes involving the Kkk
