  • Lisbon Tsunami

    An earthquake with a magnitude of 9, struck Lisbon, Portugal and formed a tsunami that had a height of about 23 ft possibly more in the West Indies.
  • Krakatoa Tsunami

    This tsunami formed when the Krakatoa volcano erupted in the Sudra straight causing the top of the volcano to crash into the straight forming a 35 m tsunami that resulted in the deaths of over 36,000 people.
  • Alaskan Tsunami (1946)

    Caused by an earthquake in the Aleutians with a magnitude of 8.1, the earthquake produced a major Tsunami in the Hawaiian Islands that killed roughly 160 people.

    An Alaskan earthquake with a 9.2 magnitude formed a deadly tsunami that killed 130 people in both Alaska and California.
  • Japan Tsunami (1993)

    A magnitude 7.8 earthquake formed in the Sea of Japan causing a tsunami in Okushiri, killing 120 people.
  • Papua New Guinea Tsunami

    An earthquake with a 7.1 magnitude in Papua New Guinea triggered a submarine landslide. This landslide formed a tsunami that killed over 2,100 people.

    The Sumatra earthquake of 2004 with a 9.1 magnitude, generated a tsunami that would kill 230,000 people.
  • Samoa Tsunami

    The Samoa earthquake with a 8.1 magnitude, formed a tsunami that would kill roughly 200 people.

    With a magnitude of 8.8 this earthquake would form a tsunami. This tsunami would kill about 700 people in coastal towns.
