Trapped

  • Day one

    Aron is starting his journey thorugh the canyons of Utah. On day one he plans to make a 30 mile trip with mountianbiking and canyoneering. He makes it 7 miles into Blue John Canyon at about 2:30 PM, where he encounters the cliff floors first dropoffs. He makes it into a small crevice in the canyon, and lands upon a large chockstone. He finds that it wasn't as secure as he had expected, and it falls on his right arm, wedging him in the canyon. He is in extreme agony from the rock on his arm.
  • Day one

    Aron decides to make a makeshift sling for him to sit in as his leg are hurting.
  • Day one

    He tries to get his arm free from the rock by pulling a bunch of times, but to no avail. He is starting to get desperate, and in his panic during a break he accidentally drinks a third of his water. He frantically tries to search for something in his backpack that could help with free his arm. Later in the day becoming less and less sane, and suggests to himself that the way out would be to cut his arm of, but then abandons that idea for the time being, to instead try to peck the rock away.
  • Day two

    He dicides to make a system of pullies to try and lift the boulder from his arm. Even with adjustments to the system, he is unsuccesful. Later he hears what he thinks are people, and cries for help, though the cries were not answered. He starts to again consider the idea of amputating his arm, and realises that he won't be able to do so without a torniquet. After making one he once again decides to abandon the idea. As night falls he is drifting in and out of conciousness.
  • Day three

    He makes and realizes that he should retry the amputation idea, and decides to make a better torniquet out of elastic. He tries to use his dull blade of feel on his skin, but he realizes that it won't be able to penetrate the skin.
  • Day four

    Aron is becoming more and more desperate and accidentally spills some of his water in his delousion. He wonders if a search party has set out to try and find him. Later he properly fastens the torniquet and decides to start cutting into his decaying arm, which he finds is relatively easy. He makes an inch big hole in the arm and then abandons it.
  • Day five

    In the morning he gets the idea to take and rock and try to break to boulder under which he is trapped.
    In the afternoon he records what he thinks might be his last video. Later, as night falls, he is freezing to the bone, as it is one of the coldest evenings so far. He carves his name, birthdate and supposed deathdate.
  • Day six

    He wakes with new hope from a dream of the son he could have which motivates him to try and break free again. He uses and rock to try and beat the boulder he is trapped under, but without much result. He later starts cutting into his decayed hand and arm, and after having exposed the bone, he gets the idea to try and snap his arm bones with his bodyweight. After a couple of tries he snaps both his radius and ulna, and after some more amputating, he is finally free.
  • Question 2

    The diary based paragraphs seem to be much more panicky and use a lot more feeling than the background paragraphs. The background paragraphs seem to have more insight compared to the other, which are more direct in their descriptions.
