    Introduction
Hello and welcome to this timeline assignment. Here you will learn all about the ten worst spacecraft disasters. Let's get started!
  • June 8, 1959: X-15 flight 191

    June 8, 1959: X-15 flight 191
The x-15 rocket was not a spaceship, but it is pretty close to one. This rocket was the highest wing engined plane, or rocket to ever fly. The pilot of this rocket was on his seventh flight, but sadly during this flight the plane had an electrical problem, and control problems. Because of these two factors together made him disoriented. Making this spacecraft explode, killing Michael J. Adams.
  • April 12, 1961: Vostok 1

     April 12, 1961: Vostok 1
The Vostok 1 was a Russian spaceship that was launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome on April 12, 1961. After this spacecraft re-entered the atmosphere it was supposed to split apart, but due to tangled wires the craft didn't do so, so once they all burned through the pilot had already gotten control of the space shuttle was steady and in its orderly fashion.
  • July 21, 1961: Mercury-Redstone 4

    July 21, 1961: Mercury-Redstone 4
The Mercury-Redstone 4 was a 1960s spacecraft launched from the Cape Canaveral space station, in Florida U.S.A. When the spacecraft accidentally landed in the Atlantic ocean. When this happened a hatch malfunctioned almost drowning Gus Grissom, because the spacecraft was rapidly filling up with water. This spacecraft was recovered in 1999 at the bottom of the Atlantic.
  • April 23, 1967: Soyuz 1

    April 23, 1967: Soyuz 1
The Soyuz 1 was a Russian spacecraft that launched from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan in the year 1967 while it was still in the processing stage, and was not ready to fly. As the Soyuz 1 was leaving the solar system a solar panel failed to deploy and that screwed up the energy in the space shuttle. When the Soyuz 1 was re-entering earth atmosphere the parachutes failed to deploy and everybody had to evacuate.
  • November 14, 1969: Apollo 12 Accident

    November 14, 1969: Apollo 12 Accident
The Apollo 12 was a spacecraft was launched from the Kennedy space station in Florida on November 14, 1969. You may be wondering what exactly happened to this spacecraft any ways? Well the answer to that is, well the space shuttle was trying to take off 2 lightning bolts struck the spacecraft. But despite all the worry that something got damaged, they inspected the spacecraft and nothing was damaged so they carried on with the lift off and launched them into space.
  • ‎ June 6, 1971: Soyuz 11

    ‎ June 6, 1971: Soyuz 11
The Soyuz 11 was a Russian spacecraft launched on June 6, 1971. This space shuttle launched into space successfully, but while in space a cabin vent valve accidentally opened and when the spacecraft returned all the crew was recovered dead.
  • January 28, 1986: Challenger spacecraft explosion

January 28, 1986: Challenger spacecraft explosion
The Challenger was a 1980s spacecraft that launched from Florida's Kennedy Space Center. Exploding just 73 seconds after blasting off, 7 astronauts were killed including Judith Resnik, Ronald McNair, Ellison Onizuka, Christa McAuliffe, Gregory Jarvis, Dick Scobee, and Michael Smith.
  • October 14, 1976: Soyuz 23

    October 14, 1976: Soyuz 23
The Soyuz 23 was a 1970s spacecraft launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome, in Russia. On October 14, 1976. When this shuttle was coming back from space the capsule broke, making the shuttle crash into a lake and the parachutes dragged it in. After that a helicopter made a very difficult rescue from a spaceship under ice. Fortunately everybody got saved and is now safe.
  • April 10, 1979: Soyuz 33

    April 10, 1979: Soyuz 33
The Soyuz 33 was a 1970s spacecraft launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Russia. While this spacecraft was doing orbital operations an engine in the spacecraft failed. This complication made this whole mission get aborted.
  • February 1, 2003: Columbian spacecraft explosion

February 1, 2003: Columbian spacecraft explosion
The Columbia spacecraft was launched on February 1st, 2003, from Florida’s Kennedy space center and exploded as it was re-entering the atmosphere, because a piece of debris flew of it and hit the right wing of the craft, damaging it and causing the spacecraft to explode.
