    After Scout's class leaves the class for lunch, Scout catches up to Walter and begins to rub his nose in the dirt for making Scout look bad in front of Miss Caroline.

    While Scout's family is having dinner with Walter, she notices that he douses his entire dinner plate with syrup. When Scout speaks up to protest against him, Calpurnia tells her to be quiet and makes her finish dinner in the kitchen

    Scout tells Atticus that her teacher has been saying that she has been taught how to read incorrectly and that she shouldn't be sent back to school because of it. Atticus tells her that its required by law that she goes to school and he told her that he would still read to her as long as she doesn't tell her teacher.
