  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act
    The Sugar/American Revenue Act was a revenue-raising act that taxed the Colonists three pence per gallon of molasses. The act made it harder to import and export items through harbors, as the shippers had to fill out complicated and annoying forms to legalize the shipment. Many of the colonists felt the act constituted a restriction of justice.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act was passed by the British Parliament and put in place the law/tax that all Colonists must pay for every printed piece of paper. The Colonists reacted by boycotting British goods and creating riots and attacks on tax collectors. Due to all the violence and backlash, the British Parliament later retracted the tax.
  • The Declaratory Act

    The Declaratory Act
    The Declaratory Act was passed by the British parliament to affirm it's power over the colonies. It stated that the Parliament had the same authority over the colonies that it does in Britain. The colonists questioned the parliament's act saying that they had no representation themselves.
  • The Townshend Acts

    The Townshend Acts
    The Townshend Acts were a series of acts put in place by the British Parliament that imposed taxes on goods such as glass, lead, paint, and paper.The Colonists resisted with acts of verbal agitation and physical violence towards officials.
  • The Tea Act

    The Tea Act
    The Tea Act was passed by the British Parliament, giving the British East India Company the right to sell tea to the colonists. And they put a heavy tax on it. The colonists reacted with the famous Boston Tea Party - an event in which Sons of Liberty snuck onto ships holding tea, and dumped it all in the sea.
