    Thomas Newcomen creates the first successful steam engine, that could actually generate and transmit power. It was first used to pump water from mines.
  • Birth of John Quincy Adams

    Birth of John Quincy Adams
    John was born on a "ninety-five acre family farm, in Braintree, Massachusetts (Unger 10)." This farm is where his dad was born, and where his parents retired.
  • Revolutionary War Begins

    700 British troops marched into Lexington to capture a patriot arsenal and found 77 minutemen waiting for them. The minutemen were going to back down and as doing so a unidentified gun went off which started the war.
  • Deceleration of Independence

    Deceleration of Independence
    Announces the 13 colonies independence from Britain. Stood for that America was no longer loyal to Britain.
  • John Quincy Adams becomes U.S Senator

    Working as Minister to the Netherlands and the Berlin Legation led to Adams being elected to the senate. He served for couple of years before he lost his spot.

    Louisiana Purchase
    828,000 square miles of land from the French government was purchased for 15 million dollars by the USA. This doubled the size of the U.S. Was one of Jefferson's most important decisions.
  • John Quincy Adams becomes minister of Russia

    President Madison made John Quincy Adams minister to Russia. After all the work he accomplished in Netherlands and Berlin.
  • Battle of 1812

    Was a battle that lasted from 1812 to 1815. The battle happened between the United States of America and the United Kingdom.
  • Court of St. James

    John Quincy Adams followed along in his fathers foot steps after the war of 1812. He became minister to the Court of St. James.
  • Antarctica

    Antarctica was discovered in 1820. Bransfield sighted the northern point of the Antarctic mainland, and Palmer sighted the mainland area south of Trinity Peninsula.
  • John Quincy Adams becomes President

    It was a close race between Adams and Jackson. But, Adams won some choosing to believe that he cheated. According to Unger "He was the most ineffective president in early American history only to metamorphose into one of the nation's greatest congressmen (240)."
  • Mexico's new constitution abolishes slavery

    Slavery is no longer legal in Mexico. This shows that other countries are also starting to see the wrongs of slavery and are banding it.
  • John Quincy Adams loses the second election

    John Quincy Adams lost to Andrew Jackson in the next presidential election. Jackson tacit was to accuse Adams of being corrupt. Adams retired after the election, but not for long.

    Andrew Jackson Inauguration
    Jackson was a War Hero from the War of 1812. He allowed all tax paying white men to vote. He removed all Indian tribes east of The Mississippi to western lands. Was known as a hero of the common man.

    Adams elected to the Plymouth, Massachusetts, House of Representatives. He was the first and only president to be elected to the House of Representatives.
  • Mexican-American War begins

    Mexican-American War begins
    Mexican cavalry attacked U.S soldiers killing about a dozen, which starts the war off. The U.S. wanted to take over California and the land surrounding it.
  • California Gold Rush

    California Gold Rush
    Gold was first found by James W. Marshall at Sutter's Mill in Coloma, California. This gold rush caused people from all over to come to Californian and try to get rich quick.
  • Death of John Quincy Adams

    John passed away after a stroke in the House of Representatives. His last words were "this is the end of Earth, but I am composed (Unger 310)." He was buried alongside his family in Quincy, Massachusetts.

    Edward Hargraves discovered a grain of gold in a waterhole near Bathurst, Australia. Which marks the start of the Australian gold rush. This gold rush brought people in from all over.
  • South Carolina Secedes the Union

    When Lincoln won presidency, the South refused to have him as the president. South Carolina was the first state to secede, followed by Mississippi.
  • Civil War Begins

    Civil War Begins
    The Union had Fort Sumter in South Carolina (military base). The fort was cut off from supplies. Southerners fired on it and captured the fort.
