  • First Colony at America

    First Colony at America
    This was the day they founded Jamestown. Colonists sailed from England on behalf of King James. It was named after King James himself
  • Great Plague in London

    It was also known as the Bubonic Plague which killed about 100,000 people in London. It nearly killed one quarter of London's population seven months in. It was spread through fleas who bit infected rats which then bit people.

    Salem Witch Trials

    It was a series of hearings and prosecutions of people being accused of witchcraft. It happened in colonial Massachusetts between february and may. It resulted in the executions of 20 people. Went from February 1692 to May 1693
  • Slavery ended in Russia

    Peter the Great was the one who abolished slavery but there was a loophole. Once it was abolished those slaves become serfs which technically wasn't slavery at all. Even though slavery was abolished, Russia remained the sixth largest holder of slaves.
  • John Quincy Adams Birth

    John Quincy Adams Birth
    He was born in Braintree, Massachussetts. He was born a prodigy to his father and the American Revolution. His mother was Abigail Smith and his father was John Adams
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    The colonists were protesting the taxes imposed on them which them deemed unfair. Then the British soldiers in Boston opened fire on a group of American colonists. They ended up killing five men and they were furious.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    Samuel Adams and the Sons of Liberty boarded 3 ships in the Boston harbor. They dumped 342 chests of tea overboard. This resulted in the passage of the punitive Coercive Acts
  • Secretary and Translator for Francis Dana JQA

    Since he was so good at French he traveled with Francis Dana. This was at the age of 14 so he was pretty young at the time. They went and traveled to St. Petersburg, Russia.
  • JQA Minister of Netherlands

    President Washington appointed him when he was young. Adam supported Washington and all his views and that is the reason he got appointed. He there served until 1797.
  • Rosetta Stone was discovered

    Rosetta Stone was discovered
    It was found by French soldiers who were rebuilding a fort in Egypt. It was found in a small village in the Delta called Rashid or Rosetta. This is where it got it's name from because it was found in this city.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    Louisiana Purchase
    Was a massive western region of North America consisting of 828,000,000 square miles. This was sold by France to the US for 15 million dollars which was about 4 cents per acre. This was the largest land purchase in US history. " The Louisiana Purchase had ensured...and had permanently united the East and West" (Unger 129). This purchase was the one that grew and helped the US immensely.
  • Last Northern State to abolish slavery

    During this year New Jersey was the last state to abolish slavery. After much pressure from the other northern states they finally abolished it. It happened a little after the Northwest Ordinance was passed.
  • JQA Minister of Russia

    President James Madison appointed him to that position. He was the first US Minister to Russia. One of his first great roles in his lifetime. "John Quincy persuaded the Russian leader to intervene with the Danish government to free the American ships held and their seamen" (Unger 154). This shows how good he was at what he did and showed the wisdom he had.
  • The Treaty of Ghent JQA

    The Treaty of Ghent JQA
    JQA headed the delegation that signed the Treaty of Ghent. This ended the war of 1812. This was another big accomplishment in his lifetime
  • JQA Secretary of State

    JQA Secretary of State
    He became Secretary of State to President James Monroe for 2 straight terms. He was amazing at his position. Considered one of the most accomplished Secretary of State of all time.

    Industrial Revolution in America

    Went from hand production methods to machines. It began in Britain but later on it spread to America which changed America for the better. The industrial revolution went from 1820 to 1870.
  • JQA Becomes sixth president

    He became the sixth president of the United States. It was a very contested election between Jackson and him. It was known as the "corrupt bargain". "Corrupt or not, in appointing Henry Clay secretary of state, John Quincy had also signed his own political death warrant as President" (Unger 239).
  • Slavery Abolished in British Empire

    A Bill was passed through the House of Commons and then passed on to the House of Lords later on. After its passing the British government compensated the slave owners for the lose of their property which were the slaves in this case. However many slaves they had that was the amount that they were compensated.

    Opium Wars

    These were two armed conflicts between the forces of the western countries and of the Qing dynasty. The first war was from 1839-1842 and the second war also known as the Arrow War was from 1856-1860. In the end the Western forces always came out on top.
  • California Gold Rush

    California Gold Rush
    Was the larges mass migration in American history. It brought roughly around 300,000 people to California alone. All started when James W. Marhsall found gold on his piece of land at Sutter's Mill in Coloma. This event lasted until 1855
  • John Quincy Adams' Death

    John Quincy Adams' Death
    On this day he died at 81 due to cerebral hemorrhage. This is uncontrolled bleeding in the brain. Prior to this he had a stroke which most likely caused this
