First Telescope is Invented
In 1610 Galileo Galilei invented the first Telescope to look up at the night sky which helped us discover jupiters moons and lunar craters. This was important because without this discovery we couldn't look up at the night sky and know anything. -

On March 16 1926 Goddard launched the first rocket into the air. This is important because this gave us the inspiration to keep working on rockets. -
First vehicle to goes into space
In October 3rd 1942 the v2 rocket military program made a rocket that reaches outer space at 62 miles off earths surface. This was a important discovery because now we knew we had the technology to get items into outer space something at that time that seemed impossible. -
First pictures of earth are taken from space
In May 22 1946 the v2 researcher finally launch a rocket in the air and the first photos of earth are taken at 65 miles up. Thing finally showed people what earth actually looked like for the first time is forever. -
First artificial satellite gets launched into space
In October 4th 1957 the ussr launch the first artificial satellite into space called the Sputnik 1. This was important important because this was the first artificial satellite to be launched into space and it also got the first signals from space. -
First living organisms to return alive from earths orbit
In august 19 1960 the ussr successfully launched plants and an animal into earths orbit and then made it back to earth alive this mission was called Sputnik 5. This achievement was important because we now new we had the technology to send animals up into space and soon us. -
First human goes into space
On April 12th 1961 the ussr launched a man named yuri Gagarin into space and made it back to earth alive but not with the probe. This was very important because now we now knew we could send people into space which was a huge milestone. -
First soft landing on the moon
On February third 1966 the ussr sent a spacecraft to the moon which made the first soft landing on the moon and also the first photos from the moon. This was important because now that we new we could land on the moon we could maby send people to the moon and walk on it. -
Humans land on the moon
In July 20th 1969 NASA landed humans on the moon in the apollo 11 mission which was the humans to be on another world and they also brought moon samples back. This was important because America finally won the space race and people could now study items from another world -
First space station is built and lived in
In April 19 1971 the first space station is built by the ussr and is soon launched people to the space station which they lived in there for 23 days setting a record for longest time in space. This was important because we could now send people to live in space and do research and could refuel ships to go to there next destination. -
First reuseibal spacecraft
In April 12th 1981 the first reuseibal spacecraft is made by NASA called the Columbia which could be used again and again after re entry. This was important because the design was much better and NASA would have to pay less money to send people into space. -
First spacecraft to go past all planets in the solar system
In June 13th 1983 NASA achieved a spacecraft named pioneer 10 to go past all solar system planets which was launched in 1972 but in 2003 we lost signal of the craft and was never heard from again. This was important because we now knew how big of solar system really is and how how long it would take to get to one end. -
Hubble space Telescope is put into orbit
On April 24th 1990 NASA and the ESA launch probably the most important item into space the Hubble space telescope which could take pictures of galaxy's and stars and the mysterys of the universe. This was important because it lead to theory's being real like black holes and the way stars are born and never before seen pictures of what's out there. -
First operational rover on mars
On July 4th 1997 the first rover makes it to mars and lands on mars without it being damaged at all but couldn't be brought back to earth. This was important because it took samples which told us what mars was made of.
