  • Malaria Parasite discovered

    Malaria was discovered by Charles Louis Alphonse Laveran. He was from a french army surgeon placed/required in Constantine, Algeria. Charles was the first to notice parasites in the blood of a patient suffering from malaria.
  • Discovery of diversity of Malaria Parasites

    Giovanni Batista Grassi and Raimondo Filetti created the names Plasmodium vivax and  P. malariae for 2 malaria parasites. Then an american called William H, named the third parasite P.falciparum. John William Watson Stephens named fourth parasite P.ovale . Robert Knowles named the 5th parasite P. knowlesi.

    Malaria Parasites Named

    An italian neurophysiologist named Camillo Golgi, officially confirmed there were at least 2 forms of Malaria. He also noticed there were different numbers of merozites (the female cell of a protozoan parasite) in the different strands of Malaria.

    Discovery of Malaria transmission (mosquitoes)

    Ronald Ross, a British officer in the Indian Medical Service demonstrated that malaria could be transmitted by mosquitoes. He also proved that mosquitos could transmit malaria to birds.

    Malaria Control war areas

    MCWA controlled malaria in military and surrounding military traning bases in the Southern United States and its territories. MCWA aimed to stop the reappearance of malaria in countries and also stopit rom effecting the training of soldiers.They also trained local and state health departments to control the spread of Malaria.

    Elimination of Malaria in the United States

    National Malaria Eradication Program, a cooperative undertaking by state and local health agencies of 13 Southeastern states and the CDC, originally proposed by Louis Laval Williams, commenced operations on July 1, 1947. By the end of 1949, over 4650000 housespray applications had been made. In 1947, 15000 malaria cases were reported. By 1950, only 2,000 cases were reported. By 1951, malaria was eliminated from the United States.
