    The Battle of the Atlantic was fought between the Western allies and the Axis powers for the Atlantic sea routes. The Nazis in 1939 began unrestricted submarine warfare against British shipping which was bad for England. British ships were lost fast because of the unfair number of England ships in compare to German ships. The end of the year American shipyards were launching seventeen destroyer escorts per month which helped the British. The British won and Germany seized to defeat in May 1945.

    September 8, 1941 Germans completed taking over the city of Leningrad. They decided to instead of fighting the city they would just make the city decide to deteriorate by themselves. By November the city's population of dogs, cats, horses, rats, and crows disappeared because they became the main source of peoples dinners. When these animals were gone they decided to turn to cannibalism. Corpses were laid around the city because the ground was frozen so there was no place to bury them.

    Battle of Stalingrad

    The German Airforce bombed the Volga River and the city of Stalingrad. They made the city of Stalingrad to rubble. Germany moved in and took over the land. Soviets hid in buildings, sewers, and would attack the German soldiers. In November the Soviets trapped the German army inside of Stalingrad. This resulted in a lack of food and the German army to be freezing from the cold November. The German army later surrendered on January 31, 1943.

    On July 10, 1943, the Allies began their invasion of Axis-controlled Europe with landings on the island of Sicily, off mainland Italy. On September 3, 1943, the Eighth Army landed at Reggio and began to come up the boot of Italy. Five days later, the US Fifth Army landed at Salerno, which German people fought against. At this point the Italian government agreed to an armistice with the Allies Mussolini. On October 13, the Italian government declared war on Germany.

    In 1944 a plan was made called Operation Thunderclap. It was during January 1945 that the British air ministry decided on its Thunderclap plan for attacks on Berlin and the population centres of eastern Germany. The reason was too take advantage of the recently launched Soviet offensive westward from the Vistula river. This was also to add to the growing chaos in Germany by disrupting the flow of the refugees that were trying to travel to the Soviet Union. The attack caused 200,000 casualties.

    February, 13,14, and 15 more than 1,200 British and US heavy bombers dropped nearly 4,000 tons of high-explosive and incendiary bombs on the city. The whole entire city was destroyed and it's historic center was completely gone. The fire that came with the bombing was so intense that it created a vacuum on the ground which ripped trees out of the ground, people would get sucked into the flames, and suffocating the ones who didn't get into the flames.

    The Battle of Iwo Jima was one of the bloodiest battles fought in World War 2. The United States of America wanted to capture the island Iwo Jima from the Japanese. Marines landed on the island which had 21,000 Japanese troops who would fight back. The battle ended with over 20,000 American and Japanese solider casualties. In the battles closing more Americans lost their lives than Japanese. The U.S. declared Iwo Jima secure on March 16. In actuality the island would not be secure until March 26

    March 9 air force crews met on the Marina Islands of Tinian and Sapian to discuss their ideas.They were planning a bomb dropping on Tokyo that evening. They did agree to have no guns to make the planes carrying the bombs lighter which the planes would then go faster. At 5:34 p.m., Superfortress B-29 bombers took off reaching their at 12:15 a.m. on March 10. Three hundred and thirty four bombers, flying at 500 feet, dropped their loads and spread flames throughout Tokyo.
