  • Kansas-Nebraska Act

    The Kansas-Nebraska Act nullified the Missouri Compromise and stated that states would now vote on if they were free or not. Northerners started to hate the republican party for supporting slavery and trying to elect John C. Fremont.

  • Dred Scott

    Dred Scott sued his owner because he believed he should be free once he was taken to free states, but they ruled against him because he wasn't considered a citizen. This led to Abraham Lincolns win in the election.

    Sharecropping

    People would borrow money from land owners for seeds and tools in hopes that they could plant and sell them and use the profit to pay back their debt to make a life for themselves; sharecropping usually ended in a lot of debt that takes many years to pay back. In 1880 32% of farms were owned by sharecroppers.

  • Antietam

    This was he bloodiest battle in the Civil War, and was won by the Union. This gave Abraham Lincoln the win he desired before issuing the Emancipation Proclamation.

    Sherman's March to Sea

    The Union took over a lot of the South's forts, and they stole their food and livestock. Sherman occupied the vacant governor's mansion and capitol building.
  • 14th amendment

    This amendment gave people the right to be a citizen. This was almost un-anonymously rejected by Georgia's Legislature.
