    Paradigm Shift
Kuhn coined the term paradigm shift. According to the book "Theory and Reality", Kuhn's theory, is a whole way of doing science, in some particular field. It is a package of claims about the world, methods for gathering and analyzing data, and habits of scientific thought and action. In Kuhn's theory of science, the big changes in how scientists see the world-the "revolutions" that science undergoes every now and then-occur when one paradigm replaces another.
  • Normal Science

    Normal Science
Kuhn said, "A key feature that distinguishes normal science from other kinds of science is the absence of debate about fundamentals". Scientists doing normal science agree on fundamentals, they do not waste their time arguing about the most basic issues that arise in their field. Kuhn places great emphasis on "consenus-forging". He argues that without consensus, there is no chance for scientists to achieve a really detailed and deep understanding of phenomena.
  • Kuhn and Revolutions

    Kuhn and Revolutions
Revolutions according to Kuhn involve a breakdown, but they are essential to science. They have a "function", Kuhn often said, within the totality of science. The special features we associate with science arise from the combination and interaction of two different kinds of activity- the orderly, organized, disciplined process of normal science, and the periodic breakdowns of order found in revolutions.
