    THE BEGINNING OF THE TRIP OF THE PILGRIMS
    On 6th September, 1620, a group of 102 pilgrims sailed from England to America, "the New World", on the ship the Mayflower. They left England because they wanted religious and political freedom. The way across the Atlantic Ocean continued for 65 days. The pilgrims had dificulty but they decided to continue on to the New Wold.

    The pilgrims saw land in the distance on 9th November, 1620. When the ship reached land, some pilgrims left to explore the area. They decided to build a village there and each family built a small house there. The called this village Plymouth. They didn´t lose hope even though 45 people died on the first winter.
    In March 1621, the pilgrims met a Native American and he introduced them to his tribe. They taught the pilgrims how to grow pumpkins... After this, life became better for the pilgrims.

    The British army and the cononists fougth the french over land in North America. The British won the war and got some of the French land. But then, the British government asked for taxes form the colonists to pay for the war. The refused to pay the taxes. The 13 colonists decided to join together to figth the British.

    THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE
    The colonies declared independence from Great Britain. Their leaders published the Declaration of Independence on this day. The colonist, led by George Washington, fougth many long, difficult battles. They defeated the British and signed the Treatre of Paris in 1783

    Louisiana Purchase Agreement

    The French Emperor Napoleon offered to sell the land to the united states for $15 million. Thomas Jefferson, accepted the offert and signed the Louisiana Purchase Agreement. This doubled the size of the country.

    TRAIL OF TEARS
    As the New World expanded, the Native American population began to suffer. Their land and traditions were in danger. In the 1830s, The US Government created the first Indian territory in Oklahoma. They forced more than 15,000 Cherokee people to leave their homes and walk 1,600 kilometres to their new territory a lot of Cherokee people died and they called the journey the "Trail of Tears"

    There were problems in their country. The people in the south lived on plantation and own slaves. The plantation owners wanted to keep their slaves but the people in the nouth wanted to abolish slavery. They said that it was cruel.Abraham Lincoln was the president of the USA and he wanted to end slavery. He also wanted to keep the country together.

    The south had got their Confederacy. It had 11 states in those days. Confederate soldiers attacked a Union fort called Fort Sumter. They were at war.

    The war was terrible. Thousand of people were dead. Both people in the north and in the south were suffering. The war couldn´t continue for long because the Confederates were losing.

    That day, General Robert E. Lee, the Confederate army leader, surrendered to General Ulysses Grant, the Union army leader. It was the end of the war. But more than 600,000 Americans were dead. After that the slaves were free and the country was one nation. but they wont everbe same again.
