    Penicilln Available to Public, Also WW2
    People of the 1940’s considered penicillin as a miracle drug. It was able to reduce the amount of amputations during WW2. Penicillin was also used to solve a problem that plagued the battlefield: the wait time between when a soldier was wounded and when he was seen by a doctor for surgery or treatment. In the Allied Forces, the average wait time was nearly 14 hours. The longer the wait, the higher the probability that the infected area would need amputation.

    Pearl Harbor plays a very important role in WWII. This is because it provoked the US to enter the war. It was a surprise attacks done by the Japanese in Hawaii, and America was completely unprepared. This mass bombing by fighter jets occurred on December 7th, 1945, and killed 2,500 americans. The attack also destroyed 18 U.S ships and injured 1,000.

    The Holocaust Ends
    The Holocaust was a deadly event that annihilated millions of innocent people in Europe. It was mainly ran by Nazi Germany, as they targeted mainly Jews, while still going after gypsies, homosexuals, and poles. These were killed mainly through gas chambers and mass shootings. While this event was a dark place in the world’s history, it is one of the biggest events of all time, especially the 40’s. This event, caused by the utter hatred of Nazi Germany, had the effect of 11 million deaths.

    The cold war was both political and a military struggle between two opposing side. They were the Western Bloc and the Eastern Bloc. This was important to the US because we took a lead in ending the spread of communism which basically took away basic human necessities.     The atomic bomb was the biggest secret weapon possibly ever utilized, and it’s effect was securing a victory for the United States in the war. The nuclear bomb was dropped twice- both at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This weapon was created to cease WW2, but it spawned a new type of warfare. Nuclear warfare is only possible because of this great innovation. Nuclear war would be nonexistant without the bomb, as it provided the technology to create the better, more deadly nuclear weapons used today.

WWII is a war involving Japan, Italy, Germany, Britain, France, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, India, the Soviet Union, China and the United States of America. Obviously if a large some of the world is fighting against each other, it must be significant. This not only changed the world but is drastically altered the US itself. For example, it provided advances in technology, women in the work force became accepted.

    The Basketball Association of America was founded in 1946 by owners of the major ice hockey arenas in the Northeastern and Midwestern United States and Canada. On November 1, 1946, the first game was played at Maple Leaf Gardens, in a game the NBA now regards as the first played in its history. The reason why the forming of this league was so important was because it provided entertainment to many people, and it still does today.

    In the year of 1947, Jackie Robinson stepped onto a field full of white men as a black man. On this day, the color barrier for baseball was broken. It was a hard trail to blaze, with a lot of racial discrimination. The reason this is a huge part of this decade is because blacks were never allowed to play any sport with whites. So after Jackie Robinson took foot on the field, the color line was shattered, and this changed the way African American athletes are thought of as today.
