    The Decembrist Revolt
    The Decembrist Revolt was an uprising held in December, 1825, when Nicholas I had taken his new spot as czar. Almost 3,000 soldiers were led to protest in St. Petersburg against him taking power. The Revolt soon died down due to its unorganization.
  • Nicholas II becomes czar of Russia

    Nicholas II becomes czar of Russia
    After his father's death in 1894, Nichloas II was appointed to the throne of czar of Russia. Although he wasn't ready to take the job, saying things like, "I am not prepared to be a tsar. I never wanted to become one. I know nothing of the business of ruling.", he took the job and ruled for 22 years. Over the course of his ruling, Nichloas dealt with many important events, one being WWI. Near the end of his rule, his subjects began to revolt. Finally he abidacted the throne in March of 1917.

    The Russo-Japanese War
    February 8, 1904 – September 5, 1905
    Developed when Japan and Russia started to fight for power in Korea and Manchuria. Russia quickly allied China extending the Trans-Siberian Railroad taking control of a part of Manchurian territory. Japan had an advantage with a larger army and better transportation. Japan suprise attacked a Russian naval squadron marking the start of the war. After over a year of fighting, the final battle was fought at Mukden where Russian forces backed down, losing.

    Bloody Sunday
    Bloody Sunday, also known as the event that marked the start of the Russian Revolution of 1905, began when strikers held a revolt in St. Petersburg. The revolters were all there for different reasons, with one main goal, to get Nicholas II to reform. The security police ordered fire among the revolters killing more than 100 and injuring even more.

    Russia began to feel very threatened by Germany over their territory, especially after they formed the Triple Alliance. Although Russia had the largest army in the world, they also decided to form a Triple Entente. The first attack Russia planned was on East Prussia where they continued to conquer land as they moved on. After two years of fighting, in 1916 when forces were held back, Russia had lost around 1 million men. Russia went back to war for two more years and stepped down in 1918.

    The March Revolution
    The March Revolution was the first event of the Russian Revolution in 1917. This began when the monarchy was replaced by the Provisional Government. This form of government was soon overthrown by the Bolsheviks later that year. The March Revolution began on March 8th 1917, and lasted only four days, ending on March 12th.

    After leading Russia into two very costly wars, having a scarce food supply, and after 23 years of ruling, Nicholas II is finally forced to abdicate his power as czar of Russia.

    The Russian Civil War was between the Bohlsheviks and the Socialist Revolutionaries. These two went to war as the Red Army (Bohlsheviks) and th White Army (Socialists) The Red Army began to seize grain from people and took over factories and other businesses. This enraged the White Army sending Russia into the Civil War.

    The creation of the U.S.S.R.
    The creation of the U.S.S.R. was offical when the Treaty of the Creation of the U.S.S.R. was passed on December 30th, 1922. This made the Soviet Union an independent union and also created a new federal government system. The Treaty was passed, and signed by the first Congress of the Soviet Union. Soon after this was passed the U.S.S.R. began to grow. Becoming 16 republics instead of its starting point of 4.
  • Vladimir Lenin’s Death

    Vladimir Lenin’s Death
    Vladimir Lenin, not only the ruler of the Soviet Union, but the creator of the Bolsheviks, died on January 21st 1924. Lenin died from a brain hemorrage at 54 years old. After years of being a very important man throughout Russia, when he died his body was embalmed and preserved in a mausoleum. He is remembered to this day as a very brutal, yet amazing leader.
