    dred scott was a slave who was sued for his freedom. he argued that because he lived in a free territory that meant he was free. the court ruled that it was not true.

    john brown wanted to inspire slaves to fight for there freedom. he planned to capture and arm the slaves. brown told the slaves to fight but they didn't and brown and several of his men were captured and some killed.
