    This was an act that made colonists pay taxes on every piece of paper they used, even playing cards. Prime Minister George Grenville authorized the act. This was something that the colonists did not like.This let to chaos in Britain
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
    The lawmaking group, also known as the parliament, lost the battle about the Stamp Act. They were determined to still have control so they passed new laws like taxes on lead, glass, paper and tea. The colonies became extremely angry about this and refused to pay these taxes. To make sure the taxes got paid, British officials had military troops sent over. A group of colonists were aggravating the troops and were throwing snowballs at them.The soldiers brought their guns out and killed 4 people.

    The tax on tea caused the price to go up, which made it more difficult for the tea sellers and growers to survive. Parliament passed a law so that British Companies did not have to pay the tax. Companies could now sell their tea for cheaper but this meant that the companies in the Americas would go out of business. To protest this a group of people dressed up as Native Americans, got on a cargo ship in t he Boston Harbor and dumped all of the tea into the Harbor.

    Many of the colonies raised armies to defend themselves in case of a war with Great Britain. Great Britain sent troops into Boston to take weapons that the colonists had. But the colonists had prepared with a group of soldiers called Minutemen.They faced the British Troops and someone fired a shot. As the British troops were coming, Paul Revere warned the colonists "The British are coming!" This warning helped the minutemen and colonists get into place and defeat the British Military.

    General Cornwallis had to surrender to the British at Yorktown, Virginia after being surrounded in battle. The Peace Treaty of Paris was signed and the war for independence ended.
