  • The Rocket Summer

    The Rocket Summer
    A rocket in the Ohio winter brings the summer with its heat. People are in awe over this incredible technology.
  • Ylla

    Ylla
    Two Martians are living together. The wife Ylla is seeing visions of men coming from Earth and landing on their planet Mars. She tells her husband and he tells her she is being ridiculous. She tries to go meet the Earth men, but her husband does not allow her to leave the house. Instead he leaves and shoots the Earth men before they can explore Mars. Ylla finds out about these murders and cries.
  • The Summer Night

    The Summer Night
    It is summer on Mars and there is concert occurring. All of a sudden, all of the singers start singing in a language they do not know. The musicians play music they do not know. Everyone is scared and confused.
  • The Earth Men

    The Earth Men
    The second expedition to Mars lands and lasts longer than the first. However, all of the Martians think the Earth men are crazy and send them to an insane asylum, where it is discovered that Martians have the ability to create hallucinations with their minds. The men try to prove their own sanity, only to farther prove (in the minds of the Martians) that they need to euthanized. The Martian kills all of the Earth men and then kills himself out of fear of insanity.
  • The Taxpayer

    The Taxpayer
    An average man of Earth begs to join the next expedition to Mars. He does not want to be on Earth any longer. The astronauts laugh at him, and when he breaks through the fence, the police take him away.
  • The Third Expedition

    The Third Expedition
    A third crew of men lands on Mars and they're confused because it looks like a suburban town on Earth. They walk around and find their dead loved ones, alive. They are confused but happy and they all go home with their "family and friends." The captain of this crew realizes in the middle of the night that there is no way dead people can come back to life and that this must be an elaborate plan to kill the Earth men. He's right and in the morning the Martians hold a mass funeral for the men.

    And The Moon Be Still As Bright
    The fourth crew of Earth men land on Mars and all but one celebrates their accomplishment. Spender does not feel like they are entitled to be on the planet and plots to kills his crew in order to save the the memory of Martians. He kills some of them until they fight back and he himself is killed.
  • The Settlers

    The Settlers
    Vast numbers of people came to Mars for any and all reasons. All kinds of people came. Earth is falling apart and the first people to Mars were no longer lonely.
  • The Green Morning

    The Green Morning
    Benjamin Driscoll just got to Mars and is about to be sent back to Earth because he could not handle the thin atmosphere. Instead of leaving though, he gets seeds and plants thousands of trees on Mars. Mars now have so many trees and Driscoll has a purpose on Mars.
  • The Locusts

    The Locusts
    Rockets were travelling to Mars from Earth constantly and the people that landed with the rockets took it upon themselves to change Mars. They made it more Earth like so that the people inhabiting Mars would be more comfortable.
  • The Night Meeting

    The Night Meeting
    Gomez is traveling on a Martian road when he meets an actual Martian. The speak different languages, but are able to perfectly understand each other because of the Martian's telepathy. They converse and realize that they are from different time periods. They cannot touch each other either, and they are confused.
  • The Shore

    The Shore
    While the entirety of Earth is focused on the war, Americans are focused on colonizing Mars. Only American come to Mars so Mars becomes American.
  • The Fire Balloons

    The Fire Balloons
    Father Peregrine wanted to go to Mars to spread his religion to the Martians who remain alive. He finds Martians in the form of blue fire balloons. He tries to save them through his faith, but they end up being the ones to save him. They do not need saving.
  • Interim

    Interim
    Mars is being colonized and made to look like earth. Buildings are being built out of Earth materials and people are working as usual.
  • The Musicians

    The Musicians
    Children living on Mars are just like children on Earth. They like to explore and disobey their parents. In this case, the children are told not to go into an abandoned Martian city. They do anyway and play with the bones of the dead Martians.
  • The Wilderness

    The Wilderness
    Two women are about to embark on a journey to Mars. They are nervous and not sure if they want to go. They prepare anyway and pack some weird things in their suitcases. Finally, one of the women gets a letter from her husband on Mars and she makes her final decision to go to Mars.
  • The Naming of Names

    The Naming of Names
    All of the landmarks and cities and streets on Mars are named after Earth people and things and events. The Martian names are forgotten and replaced by these new names.
  • Usher II

    Usher II
    A man builds a creepy house on Mars after all of his library was burned down. He invites many guests to his house where he kills them all in ways that relate to the books he lost. Then the house falls down.
  • The Old Ones

    The Old Ones
    Old people are finally going to Mars. Men and women and children are already on Mars, so it is time for the old people to make their way up there too.
  • The Martian

    The Martian
    A Martian disguises himself as many humans and stays with the families of the humans he is impersonating. He does this to survive on the planet that was taken from his species. Finally he gets too overwhelmed.
  • The Luggage Store

    The Luggage Store
    There is talk of a war on Earth and Father Peregrine talks about it with the owner of a luggage store. Then he buys some luggage, just like everyone else who is leaving Mars to go help on the war.
  • The Off Season

    The Off Season
    Sam Parkhill opens a hot dog stand on Mars. No one is there to buy hot dogs though because they are all on Earth because of the war. Then a Martian gives Sam ownership over half of Mars.
  • The Watchers

    The Watchers
    Everyone on Mars watches the war back on Earth. They see the planet explode and then they decide to go back to see if their loved ones are okay.
  • The Silent Towns

    The Silent Towns
    Walter Gripp wants to find a wife on Mars. He goes into town every week to look for a girl to marry. One week he goes into town and there was nobody there. Everyone on Mars had gone back to Earth because of the war. He searches everywhere and finally finds one person left on Mars. He goes to meet this girl, but when he sees her he decides that he would rather live alone than with her, and he runs away.
  • The Long Years

    The Long Years
    Captain Hathaway has been living with his family on Mars for twenty years. However, it is discovered that his family dies years ago and his replaced them with robots so he would not be lonely.
  • There Will Come Soft Rains

    There Will Come Soft Rains
    Earth is barren and the people have died because of the war. However, the technology that humans have made still lives on, eerily.
  • The Million-Year Picnic

    The Million-Year Picnic
    A family flies to Mars on a rocket to escape the poor conditions on Earth. They bring their children and intend to live there for the rest of their lives. They are also going to repopulate Mars with a few other families.
