Ali comes to Baba's family
1933 was the year of Baba's birth, and the year that Zahir Shah became the king of Afghanistan. In the same year, there was two young men from a wealthy and reputable family in Kabul, driving while drunk, and high.They killed a Hazard husband, and wife (Ali's parents) on the road to Paghman. Then Ali was adopted by Amir's grandfather, and grew up as a servant. He was Baba's playmates, but Baba never refer him as a friend, just like how Amir never refer Hassan as a friend. -
Hassan was born, and was abondoned
Hassan was born a year after Amir, he was born smiling, with the cleft lip. After 5 days, Sanaubar (Hassan's mother), ran away from Hassan without even holding him. Baba hired the same nursing woman who had fed Amir to nurse Hassan. Hassan's relationship with Amir was determined, and unbreakable, since they were fed from the same breast. Hassan's first word was Amir, but Amir's first word were Baba. -
surgery for Hassan's cleft lip
cleft lip infoBaba never miss Hassan's birthday. Every winter, he always pick a present for Hassan, but this year was a little unusual. Baba introduced Hassan to Dr, Kumar, a plastic surgeon, and as a gift, Baba is willing to pay all the fees for his cleft lip. But Baba's action caused Amir to be jealous of how much Baba cares about Hassan, thinking that Hassan doesn't deserve Baba's attention. The surgery went well, by the following winter, it waas only a faint scar. -
The kite competition
In the Winter of 1975, a kite competition was held in Amir's neighborhood. Amir, and Hassan worked together to keep the kite flying, Amir thinks the victory would help him gain Baba's love, and make Baba feel proud at last. Hassan runs to bring back the lost kite for Amir, but, when Amir found Hassan with the blue kite, he saw Hassan was beaten for refusing to give the kite to Assef. But Amir betrayed Hassan's loyalty, since he was afraid of getting hurt. he ran away instead of saving Hassan. -
Amir's 13th birthday
It was during the Summer of 1976, Baba invited hundreds of people for Amir's birthday, and most people are strangers to Amir. He greeted each guest (including Assef) with Baba for thanking them for coming. When the firework started at night, Amir saw Hassan serving drinks to Assef, and Wali, he can't never forget the look of Assef grining, Kneading Hassan in the chest. -
Hassan, and Ali left the house
Amir can't escape his feeling of guilt. So Amir hides his watch (birthday gift), and some money under Hassan's mattress, tries to make them leave. When Baba questioned Hassan, Hassan responded by saying that he did stole the stuff. Hassan's last sacrifice for Amir makes him feel like he's a thief. But when Baba forgived Hassan, Amir was shocked, cause to Baba, theft was the greatest sin. Anyhow, Ali, and Hassan decided to leave, even though Baba cries, and beg Ali for the first time. -
Leaving Afghanistan
Some significant changes applied to Afghanistan, at 2 in the morning, Baba, and Amir left Kabul in a truck, going to Pakistan. But the truck made Amir feel very uncomfortable, wanting to throw up, and Baba was apologizing to other passengers. During one of the check points, A Russian soldier wanted a half hour with a lady at the back of the truck. Baba stood up for the lady, willing to face danger for fairness. The soldier threatens Baba by shooting him, but was prevented by another soldier. -
Amir married Soraya
wedding videoBaba, and Amir now lives in Fremont Califonia. In the Summer of 1984, they meet Soraya at the flea market. She is unforgetable to Amir,and Amir tries to find ways to speak with her. But at the same year, Baba was diagnosed with cancer, but refuses to accept any treatment. Soraya's parent accepted the request for their marriage when Baba asked them. And Soraya told Amir that she lived with a Afghan man when she was 18. But Amir, won't mind her past. They had their wedding before Baba died. -
meeting Rahim Khan
Rahim Khan is giving Amir a way to be good again, which is to go to Kabul and adopt Sohrab (Hassan's son). But Amir rejected, and it makes Rahim wonder if Amir is still a boy who can't stand up for anything. Finally, Rahim told him that Ali was'nt Hassan's father, he can't give birth. Amir realizes Hassan is his half brother, and Baba betrayed his closest friend (like how Amir betrayed Hassan). Realizes that Baba was once a thief, and the thief of the worst kind. -
For you, a thousand times over
Sohrab is tired of everything, and he wanted his old life back.
Amir, and Sohrab arrived in America in 2001, he stays in silence for sevaral month, unwilling to speak. Also, Amir tells people to never call him a Hazara boy, it's his nephew. During the celebration of New Year in 2002, Sohrab finally smiled. Amir talked about how Hassan was the best kite runner, and they begin to fly a green kite. When the kite was out of control, he ran for the kite, and yelled:"for you, a thousand times over."
