    It was a fire in the Reichstag building in Berlin on February 27, 1933. Marinus van der Lubbe, a young 24 year old Dutch Communist, was blamed for the event by the German government of Chancellor Adolf Hitler. After being tortured he admitted having set fire to the building, for which he was sentenced to death. The fire was used as "proof" by the Nazis to accuse the Communists of the KPD of conspiring against the Government
