The Impact of Risk, Regulations and Influence

  • Exercise

"Exercise is associated with more positive mood,
improved sleep, better concentration and productivity and
higher self-esteem. If you are active in sports is a great way to
be consistent with exercise. Surround yourself with others who model physical fitness by being active" (pg. 2).
  • Nutrition

"Make nutrition a priority. Many teens rely on vending machine snacks, fast food and on-the-go sugary sports drinks or sodas for fuel during the day. These foods do not provide last-ing energy or the nutrients teenagers need for proper growth and development. Educate yourself about healthy food choices and proper portion sizes. Choose complex carbohydrates and lean protein for snacks and try to make sure healthy foods are available at home" (2-3).
  • Screen Time

"Limit your screen time and media exposure. It's tough to keep away from television and online media these days. However, research shows that excessive media exposure can negatively influence teenagers' nutrition, body image and health. In addition, too much screen time leads to a sedentary lifestyle that can promote obesity
and other health problems" (pg. 3).
  • Influencing Others

I once convinced someone that eating vegan was the best way to eat. I did not push it on them. Instead, I was there for her and made sure she knew that she could come to me with questions or advice. This made her healthier because she chose a healthier lifestyle with my assistance. It was ultimately her decision and was easier for her to make seeing me as a vegan and how it has impacted me.
