    What is an absent father?
An absent father is when a father is not physically or emotionally present for his child. This happens through things like death, abandonment, addiction or work. Although a father is within a house, if he’s not interacting with his children he is emotionally absent which has nearly the same effect of a physically absent father.

What is the impact of absent fathers?
Children raised without fathers have slowed emotional development, usually less discipline, and lesser cognitive performance. Sons aren’t given a manly example that they should follow, are in fear of being fathers since they’ve never had one, and a lot of times they take after the feminine characteristics of their mothers. Furthermore, daughters also suffer because they usually have poor school performance, low self esteem, and are desperate for male attention.

    Why do these impacts happen?
A father plays an important part in the household, they emotionally support their children, discipline their children, and are a sense of security for their children. If this aspect is lost within the family unit, then the family suffers major emotional damage. This damage hurts the development of both sons and daughters.
