The history of the periodic table

  • Lavoisier

He discovered and wrote the first extensive list of elements containing 33 elements as well as distinguishing the difference between metals and non-metals.
  • Johann Dobereiner

1817-1829 Johann Dobereiner developed the triads which were groups of 3 elements with similar properties
  • Lothar Meyer

In 1864, Meyer formed a shortened version of the periodic table and included half of the known elements that we know of today
  • John Newlands

He published in 1865 his 'Law of Octaves', which stated that 'any given element will exhibit similar behavior to the eighth element following it in the table.'
  • Lothar Meyer

1868, Meyer made an extended version of the periodic table which he gave to a colleague to evaluate
  • Mendeleev

Mendeleev published his periodic table in 1869. He organized his group of elements depending on their atomic mass
  • Lothar Meyer

The extended version of Meyer's periodic table was not published until 1870, which was a year after Mendeleev's table was published
  • Glen Seaborg

Glen Seaborg artificially produced heavy mass elements in 1940.
    These elements were called actinides.
