In 1893 a Japanese chemist, Nagai Nagayoshi, discovered meth from another stimulant drug called amphetamine. Methamphetamine was used to treat narcolepsy, asthma, and a weight loss drug. -
Akira Ogata
In 1919, Akira Ogata, another Japenese chemist streamlined the process of making meth. Ogata phosphorus and iodine to reduce the ephedrine. This created the worlds first piece of crystal meth. -
Use of Meth in World War II
During World War II a German company named Temmler started selling Methamphetamine tablets under the name of Pervitin. The U.S, Japenese, and German military issued these tablets to their soldiers. They were given to soldiers to keep them awake and very alert. Many frontline soldiers were given a stimulants that contained meth and cocaine. -
The U.S Bans Meth
In the 1970's many Americans had found the amazing had discovered the effects of meth. Many Americans used it for weight loss and as an energizer. As the use of Metamphetamie increased the Government began to quickly realize the negative effects. The government outlawed meth and took it off the market. -
Modern Meth
In the 1990's many organized crime groups and drugs cartels began to see how much of a profit by selling Methamphetamine. Many drug cartels began making large meth labs. Because of this many small-time drug users and dealers began producing meth in their own backyards and kitchens.
