After serving in the French and Indian war, Ethan Allen purchased land in what is now the State of Vermont. However a dispute over the land In Champlain Valley arose, with New York and New Hampshire claiming it as their own.

    In 1775, The Green Mountain Boys focused on the American Revolution, Fighting for the American Colonies against Great Britain. Along with Benedict Arnold, Allen led the GMB to capture Ticonderoga, Which they did easily due to the few guards stationed there. Allen and GMB went to capture Crown Point, They succeeded. And with these successes they believed they could seize Montreal as well, They tried, They failed. Allen was captured and sent to the prison Cornwall, In England for 2 years.

    The Later Life of Ethan Allen.

    When Ethan Allen returned to Vermont he retired to his home in what is now Burlington Vermont. He then revived a book he was working on with his friend Dr. Thomas Young. He published "Reason The Only Oracle of Man". It was largely condemned by Christian Clergymen. Ethan Allen died in Burlington, Vermont on Febuary 12, 1789 two years later, Vermont joined the United States.
