This is an iconic coming of age films as it holds all the connotations of a teenage boys mind right from the cover of the film to the film in itself. It has clearly stood the test of time and was selected for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.

    This film is about people in love in the 50's The setting is the California and it is a musical rom-com about learning to cope with the problems of being a teenager during high school. The film was very popular with the teenage audience and it was a hit success which means that it is a very good representation of the coming of age genre.

    The breakfast club is a typical setting of the genre and time of date of where it is set. It very clearly shows the setting of the 80's by the hair style and the culture of the teenage audience. This film is very strongly representing the genre. Also, slightly like grease, it teaches children to cope through the stressful situation of teenage hood and through high school

    Ferris Bueller's Day off is about a school student who bunks of school to spend the day with his girlfriend in Chicago. This film is iconic to the genre as it represents the typical things that teenagers so. For example, he skips school!
  • Say Anything

    Say Anything
    Say anything, directed by Cameron Crowe, is a rom-com drama about an undergraduate who falls in love with a valedictorian. It is a very heart warming film and it features the very iconic boom box scene. This film is proven to be very popular with the teenage demographic. This film also has a moral to it and teaches teens that they need to appreciate the things around them that makes them smile.
  • The sand lot

    Also known as the Sandbox kids, this coming of age baseball film tells the story of young baseball players during the summer of 1963. This film is a good representation as it follows kids playing their childhood favorite sport. Very good narrative and grossed £33 million worldwide
  • American Pie

    American Pie is a teen sex comedy. The film concentrates on five best friends competing to get a good sexy life. This film links strongly with the audience demographic as we are constantly confronted with the thoughts of teenage boys as all they seem to care about is girls.
  • Lords of Dog Town

    Lords of Dog Town
    Lords of dog town is a biographical sports action drama. This compelling film follows the lives of skaters during the early 1970's. This film is very much a strong representation of a coming of age film. I know this because it follows the lives of very delinquent and under privileged teens finding fame through skateboarding. I, personally, love this film as it shows just the sheer amount of joy and excitement, yet still being competitive, feeling you can get from skateboarding.
  • Juno

    Juno, also featuring Michael Cera, tackles the common scares that all teenagers may go through at some point. Teen pregnancy. This film is very well directed and just shows the nervs and pain that one pregnancy, during high school, can do. It is a rom-com and is definitely an example of the genre as it features many key iconography to relate to the audience. For example, lots of guitar is used when Michael's character plays to his girlfriend. Very funny film
  • Superbad

    Superbad
    Superbad is a ten comedy film which stars Michael Cera and Jonah Hill. These actors have a commodity star affect as they are frequently seen in coming of age films such as Juno or 21 Jump Street. This film follows the life's of High School students rolling into College. It, much like Grease, shows us just how two high school best friends can be split apart into two different college's. This is very relative and set towards the audience as many people would have experienced this.
