    Some Americas did not want independent from Britain moved to Canada but they don't want to live in a French culture. To avoid the problems, Great Britain divided the land into two colonies: Upper Canada and Lower Canada.

    The people of Upper ad Lower Canada worked together to protect Canada from invasion by the United States.
  • Revolt in Lower Cananda

    A French Canadian named Louis Papineau organized a revolt in Lower Canada. His goal was to establish the region as a separate country.
  • The British North American Act

    The British Parliament accepted the British North American Act. This made Canada " one Dominion under the name of Canada". Canadians would elect their own leaders.

    World War I

    Canada contributed so much to the Allied victory that the young country became a world power.

    World War II

    Canadians built factories and the made supplies and goods such as clothes and shoes. After the war, their goods found a ready market in the United States and Europe.
  • Bilingual Counry

    Because British Canadians built new factories in Quebec, the government passed new law that made Canada have two official languages: English and French.
  • A New Constitution

    In 1982, Canada adopted a new constitution. It gave Canadians the power to change their constitution without Britain's permission. Canada was now completely independent.
