    The Embargo act stopped trade with all countries, not just Britain and France. It was passed by Thomas Jefferson and was later replaced with the non-intercourse act. The embargo act caused the trade economy to fall and caused Jefferson's reputation to be damaged because of the way it affected everybody.

    Non-Intercourse Act
    The Non-Intercourse act replaced the Embargo act. Trade economy fell because of the Embargo act, but it caused the US to become more of a manufacturing economy. Jefferson received a lot of backlash because of his Embargo Act and by replacing it he probably thought things would be better, but his reputation was already tarnished.

    U.S. Declares War Against Britain
    After having their sailors impressed by Britain over and over again, the US finally declared war against Britain. Britain was being shady and supporting the natives in their war against the US and that was another big factor as to why we finally declared war. One of the breaking points in declaring war was the War Hawks convincing everyone that Britain deserves what's coming to them and ultimately, they were a major influence on the American people at the time.

    The Treaty of Ghent was the Treaty that ended the war between the US and Britain. It was signed in the United Netherlands in the city of Ghent. A lot of the Natives weren't on board with this treaty and were mad about it.

    This was the first battle after the Treaty of Ghent. The word about the Treaty hadn't spread fast and Jackson didn't know the war was over. Andrew Jackson and his men went to New Orleans to fight a Native American tribe and although they were outnumbered 2:1 the US won..

    The Adam-Onis Treaty settled border disputes between the US and Spain. Under this Treaty the US gave up what is now Texas, and Spain gave us East-Florida. The US also agreed to pay $5 million of US citizen claims against Spain.

    Congress couldn't decide if they should let Missouri enter as a free state or a slave state. They settled on on admitting Missouri as a slave state and Maine (Missouri territory) as a free state.Congress also said that slavery was prohibited at the southern border border of Missouri.

    The Monroe Doctrine was a statement that basically told all new colonies to stay out of the Western Hemisphere. Since the US was a powerhouse most countries agreed and din't try to invade or colonize any more of the already colonized land.

    Henry Clay's American system was a three way plan that would better America's economy. The American system consisted of three parts which were, a tariff to protect and promote the American industry, a national bank that would use one form of currency, and a grant of money from the federal government to make roads and canals.

    Erie Canal Finished
    The end of the good feelings era was marked by the completion of the Erie Canal. The canal was 363 miles long and started where Albany met the Hudson River and went to where Buffalo met Lake Erie. The canal has since been re-dug 3 times, and is still in New York. This was one of the most ambitious projects of the time that was completed.
