    V-E Day stands for Victory in Europe. Troops were coming to capture and kill Adolf Hitler, he then swallowed cyanide pills and shot himself in the head in his underground bunker. Therefore, Germany had no choice but to surrender. The next day he war ended in Europe and was proclaimed as victory. (Militaristic Action)
  • Hiroshima is the First

    Hiroshima is the First
    An American plane releases the first atomic bomb in the Japanese city of Hiroshima. This powerful bomb executed more than 70,000 people and later killed more by radiation sickness. (Militaristic and Science Actions)
  • Nagasaki is Next!

    Nagasaki is Next!
    2 days after the tragic explosion in Hiroshima, the United States released another atomic bomb on the city of Nagasaki. This bomb killed about 40,000 more people. (Militaristic and Science Action)
  • The Truman Doctrine

    The Truman Doctrine
    Harry S. Truman made a new policy to Congress that stated, "I believe that it must be the policy of the United States to support free peoples who are resisting subjugation by armed minorities or by outside pressures." This was used to limit communist actions in the Soviet area. The president sent aids to Europe so they could resist communist threats. (Political, Militaristic, and Economic Action)
  • Berlin Airlift

    Berlin Airlift
    Joseph Stalin did not like that the West moved to rebuild Germany. Therefore, he attempted to propel Western Allies out of Berlin by blocking off every railroad and highway of the city.   • The Berlin Wall is toppled

    The Berlin Wall is toppled
    In the early years of the Cold War, the Berlin Wall was put up to separate Communist East Germany from Western Germany so East Germans couldn't flee. The Berlin Wall fell to freedom when East Germany lifted their ban to let them freely pass into West Berlin without a Visa. (Political and Cultural Actions)
