The Cause of The American Revolution

  • The French and Indian War

    The French and Indian war was a war between France and Britain over the Ohio River Valley. The both wanted control over the valley because it was a great way to make money off of it. The colonist in the colonies helped Britain and the Indians helped the French. Britain ends up winning but they become broke so the enforced more taxes on the colonies.
  • The French and Indian War ends

    The war ends with Britain in the victory and broke.
  • The Sugar and Stamp Act

    After the French and Indian war, Britain put the Sugar Act to get taxes. Britain decided to put taxes on stamps. Anything paper gets stamped and taxed on. Britain did this to get money after the war with France since they went broke. The Sons of Liberty was a group of patriots who were against Britain and they used violence against tax collectors. The loyalist avoided buying paper, stamps, and sugar. In defense, Britain set the Declaratory Act which is stating no one can enforce laws on Britain.
  • The Townshend Act

    The Townshend Act was taxes set on glass, lead, paint, paper, and tea. The reason for these taxes were a way for Britain to pay military expense and governors in the 13 colonies. The Sons of Liberty did not like these taxes so they launched attacks against tax collectors. Instead of buying those items, most women made the items for the house. In response to these attacks, Frances Bernard ordered more troops for peace and disbanded the Massachusetts legislature.
  • Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre was a fight between the Sons of Liberty and Britain. The patriots were protesting outside of a tax collector house and British troops shot people. Patriots were drunk, rioting and throwing things at houses that belonged to a tax collector. The loyalest were agreeing with British troops. In response to this event, Britain took off all tax except on tea and took away the soldiers. After this event, it caused more people to become patriots.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Sons of Liberty didn't like the tea act. They protested against it by dressing up as Native Americans and dumped 342 chests of tea over the Boston Harbor. The cause of this was because Britain grew the tea tax. The loyalist tried to stop it. In response, Britain set 5 more taxes leaning on Boston. This act is called the Intolerable Act.
  • The Intolerable Act

    The Intolerable Acts were 5 laws set to punish Massachusetts due to the Boston Tea Party. The patriots tried to fix it but the loyalists think Massachusetts deserves to be punished.
  • The First Continental Congress

    After the Intolerable Acts were set to punish Massachusetts, a group of 12 men from 12 colonies came to a meeting. Georgia was 4 months late. These 12 men were trying to figure out a way to help Massachusetts and defeat Britain. Loyalist were trying not to make Britain mad even more. In response to this meeting, Britain sent even more troops to control the colonies.
