The British Acts

  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    The British are taxing the colonists for sugar, rum, molasses, and syrups. This act was passed to help pay off the war debt and to stop illegal smuggling into the colonies.
  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    Any British Soldiers can take shelter and food in any house or barrack. The Quartering Act was to protect the colonial interest and the colonists from any remaining threats like the Frenchmen and Native Americans.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    All paper products had to have a stamp, which required money to get. This act was specifically passed to take a different approach to taxes.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    Glass, red lead etc. Were going to be taxed when imported into the colonies and British soldiers could go into people's house's and find anything illegal. The Townsend Act was passed to prevent the smuggling of goods that were taxed.
  • The Tea Act

    The Tea Act
    The Tea tax was the only tax at the moment and that you had to have a license to import tea. The Tea Act was passed to help the East India company from not going bankrupt.

    The British want control of the colonies and the colonies aren't allowed to load cargo on ships. The Boston Port Act was passed because the colonists poured the tea out into the bay.

    The governor has to be Lawful to Britain and trials would be held in Britain. This act was passed so colonists couldn't hold any meetings without a governor.

    The British extended Quebec's territory. The Quebec Act was passed only to extend Quebec's territory.
