    Nathaniel Bacon leads a large group of settlers in rebellion against governer Berkeley of Virginia. He and his group set fire to Jamestown capital city, resulting in the hanging of over 20 followers, but not Bacon.

    Yale was founded to try to retain old Calvinist ideas. That failed, as all but one of the faculty there converted.

    Jonathan Edwards Sparks Great Awakening
    Around the 1730s, the Great Awakening started to sweep through and was sparked around 1730 by the words that Jonathan Edwards, a Yale minister, spoke. "God was an angry judge, and humans were sinners!"

    Zenger Trial
    Around 1733, John Peter Zenger printed a piece regarding the corrupt governor at the time, William S. Cosby. He was tried for libel, but won the case, and helped reinforce the idea of free press until law guaranteed it.

    Princeton University is significant here in the way that it was one of the schools that were founded by new light-ers, or, awakening preachers, and still stands today.

    Parliament Hears "Don't Tread on Me" Loud and Clear.

    England felt the effect of the rebellions taking place in the colonies during this time, and they got the message from that loud and clear.

    Paxton Boy March
    A group of people known as the Paxton Boys marched to Pennsylvania to protest the friendly to Natives policy, these people wanted to take native land and get protection on attacks from Natives after that. Well, that went about as well as expected, with them about to attack Pennsylvania, but a delegation of people sent to meet with them was able to stop that from happening, coming to an agreement with the Paxtons.

    Outlaws roamed the land during this time, that is until people decided to do something about it, specifically, the group of vigilantes known as the regulators.

    Tenants of wealthy NY aristocrats wanted help due to high living costs. However, that didn’t really work out and the government ruled in favor of the wealthy landowners. This sparked riots, and angry people took up arms.

    Smuggling Becomes Vital to Revolutionary Cause
    Smuggling becomes a vital part of the revolutionary cause, as it encouraged ignoring British law. Smuggling actually became quite commonplace, and while doing this, American shippers became skilled at avoiding the British naval force. It got to the point where the British began to enforce harsher rules, but with that came more rebellion.
  • Many New England Ministers Convert

    By the end of the 1700s, many of New England's Ministers converted to Unitarians, doubting even the existence of Christ.
