    The invention of the movable-type printing press
    Johannes Gutenberg invented the movable printing press and thanks to that people could get copies from books more easily, as the monks didn't have to write entires books over and over.
    CONSEQUENCES:
    1.Without the printing press, Luther's text wouldn't expand.
    2.Humanism expanded thanks to the printing press.

    The Fall of Constantinople
    The Byzantine Empire ended today. The turkish conquered the main city, Constantinople. With this event, the Middle Ages end and the Modern Age starts. CONSEQUENCES:
    1.One of the most important and splendorous empires disappeared.
    2.Europeans will no longer be able to commerce with Asia through the Silk Road, so they will try to find another way. During the search, the DISCOVERY OF AMERICA will accidentally occur.

    Christopher Columbus discovered America, well, did he really discover America? The answer is yes, he found the land, but he didn't know about the fact that he was touching a new continent, he thought he was in Asia! As a matter of a fact, he never knew the truth, he died thinking he had reached Asia. However, he did prove that the Earth was round.

    Treaty of Tordesillas
    Portugal and Castile divided the territories that were yet to be explored. They stablished a meridian, belonging Africa, Asia and a bit of America to Portugal and America and the Philipinnes to Castile.
    CONSEQUENCES:
    Because of a mistake, a bit of America was given to Portugal and that's why people in Brazil speak Portuguese.

    Vasco Da Gama arrived in India and it was a very important event because that meant that there was a route to Asia that didn't go through the territories that the Turkish controlled.

    Indulgences carried a controversy thet caused the Reformation.

    Luther writes his 95 thesis
    Luther was a monk who lived peacefully in Wittenberg, Germany. At least, he was until we found out about the indulgences. He thought that the Church behaviour did not represent Christ's message, and he expressed his ideas in ninety-five thesis that he wrote and decided to hammer then in the church's door. That's how the Reformation began.

    The first circumnavigation of the Earth
    The expedition left Seville with Ferdinand Magellan as captain. The purpose of the trip was to find a passage between the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean, go through it and complete the first circumnavigation of the Earth. They found a strait (Strait of Magillan) and reached the Philipinnes, where Magellan died. His boatswain, Elcano,became the captain and reached his goal: the first circumnavigation of the Earth.

    Creation of the Church of England
    Henry VIII of England was the English monarch and wanted to get the divorce. He was married to Catherine of Aragon, but he wanted to get married to Anne Boleyn. The Pope did not approve the divorce, so Henry decided to create his own Church, the Church of England. The Pope woudn't be the head of this Church, the king himself would.

    Council of Trento
    It was a meeting of members from the clergy lead by the Pope. The purpose was to discuss the fact that catholics and protestants should get along. But it didn't work, and they ended up with new ideas to stop Lutheranism from expanding.
    CONSEQUENCES:
    1.It separated the different churches, the basically hated each other.
    2. It made the Catholic Church more strict about its beliefs.
  • The French Revolution

    The French Revolution
    French population didn't like the monarchy, they thought they were treating them badly. They decided to make a revolution, and it started with the Storming of the Bastille. This event is known as the end of the Modern Age.
